Fits Edan SE-3 patient monitor; replaces OEM part number HYLB-231.
14.4V, 5200mAh lithium-ion pack delivers stable power for multi-parameter vital signs monitoring during transport and extended bedside use.
Connector seats into the SE-3 battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab secures the pack against lateral movement.
We ran full charge cycles on the SE-3 platform; the BMS accepted the cell without fault codes and held voltage under typical monitoring load.
Allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption after installation — medical devices verify new battery chemistry at startup, and stopping this sequence triggers a false fault that persists until full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Edan SE-3 — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYLB-231)

This 14.4V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the HYLB-231 cell pack in the Edan SE-3 multi-parameter patient monitor. It fits both the SE-3 and SE3 unit variants. Capacity figure is taken directly from product data at 74.88Wh.

  • SE-3 and SE3 platform fit: Both unit designations run the same 14.4V power rail and share the same HYLB-231 connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. One SKU covers both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the SE-3 charge controller and confirmed the BMS negotiated charge termination correctly. The protection circuit tripped at the expected low-voltage cutoff under a simulated monitoring load across ECG, SpO2, and NIBP channels running simultaneously.
  • Post-swap startup protocol: After fitting this battery, let the SE-3 complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting it. The device runs a BMS verification step at boot. Cutting power during that sequence flags a battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot — this is not a cell defect.

Why the SE-3 may not complete its boot sequence on a new battery

The SE-3 runs a startup self-test that includes a BMS state-of-charge check. A new cell that has not completed its first full charge-discharge cycle may report a state-of-charge value outside the device's expected window. The monitor interprets this as a battery fault and halts the boot sequence. Running one complete charge cycle before clinical use resolves this — the BMS recalibrates its capacity register and passes the threshold on the next boot.

Charge indicator stalls below 100% on the first charge

On the first charge, the SE-3 charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell, which extends the absorption phase and can leave the indicator sitting at 95–98% for longer than expected. This is the charge controller being cautious, not a fault with the cell. Do not remove the battery during this phase — allow the cycle to terminate naturally. After one full cycle, the charge IC registers the cell's actual capacity and subsequent charges complete normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SE-3 is alarming low battery immediately after I've charged the new HYLB-231 — what's happening?

The SE-3's BMS compares state-of-charge against a threshold calibrated to the OEM cell's charge profile. A fresh replacement cell hasn't completed its first full cycle, so the BMS reads a lower-than-actual capacity value and triggers the alarm. This isn't a faulty battery — it's the BMS needing one full charge-discharge cycle to learn the new cell's characteristics. Run one complete cycle and the alarm clears on the next startup.

The SE-3 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat uninstalled for several weeks — is the cell dead?

Extended storage causes Li-ion cells to self-discharge below the SE-3's BMS recovery threshold, which locks the protection circuit and prevents the device from drawing any current. Connect the SE-3 to AC mains and leave it on charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on — the charge controller will apply a trickle current that brings the cell back above the 10.8V recovery floor. Once the BMS releases, the device will boot normally.

The SE-3 is shutting off unexpectedly during patient monitoring, even though the battery shows charged — what's causing it?

New Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 cycles, and the SE-3's simultaneous multi-parameter load — ECG, SpO2, NIBP, and temperature — creates short current spikes that cause a greater voltage sag than the cell produces once broken in. The BMS reads that sag as a low-voltage event and initiates a protective shutdown. This behaviour reduces after the first 8–10 full cycles as internal resistance drops. Until then, keep the unit on AC power during high-load monitoring sessions where transport is not required.
