Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Puritan Bennett PB110 / Nellcor — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (5677)
This 3.6V Ni-MH battery at 2000mAh (7.2Wh) replaces the original cell in the Puritan Bennett PB110, PB 100, and Nellcor pulse oximetry monitors. These devices display patient blood oxygen saturation and heart rate in clinical and home healthcare settings. OEM part numbers covered: 5677 and B10667.
- PB110, PB 100, and Nellcor platform fit: These three models share the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH power rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery services all three variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and load on the PB110 platform. The BMS completed its verification pass and the device held stable voltage under the monitor's intermittent SpO2 sampling load profile.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this cell, allow the monitor to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. Nellcor devices run a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power mid-cycle logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Why the PB110 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Nellcor BMS stores a chemistry baseline from the original factory cell. A new Ni-MH replacement presents a slightly different internal resistance profile, and the BMS flags this as a low-state cell on first boot. This is not a defect in the battery. Run one full charge-to-discharge cycle and the BMS recalibrates its threshold to match the new cell's actual capacity curve. After that first conditioning cycle, the low-battery alarm clears and does not return at full charge.
Monitor will not power on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day in storage. If this battery shipped or sat unused for several weeks, its resting voltage may have dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 3.0V for a 3.6V nominal cell. The BMS interprets anything below that floor as a damaged or missing cell and blocks startup. Place the battery on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle before attempting to power on the monitor. Once voltage climbs back above the 3.0V threshold, the BMS releases the block and the device boots normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Nellcor monitor boots fine but shuts off mid-reading — the battery was fully charged before use. What's happening?
New Ni-MH cells deliver inconsistent current during the first several cycles as the electrode material conditions. The PB110 and PB 100 apply a sharp intermittent load during SpO2 sampling, and an unconditioned cell can sag enough under that draw to trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff — even from a full charge. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles before using the monitor clinically. After conditioning, the cell sustains the load without voltage sag.
The charge indicator stopped advancing before reaching 100% on the first charge — is the battery faulty?
Not faulty. The charge IC in these Puritan Bennett monitors applies a conservative termination threshold when it reads a new cell's internal resistance as higher than the stored baseline. It reads the resistance peak as a sign the cell is full and cuts the charge early. Let the monitor charge the battery a second time immediately after the first cycle completes. On the second pass, the charge IC reads a lower internal resistance from the now-partially conditioned cell and allows a fuller charge through — the indicator reaches 100% normally from that point.
After swapping the battery, the device displays a battery fault error and won't clear — how do I reset it?
This fault is logged during the power-on self-test when the BMS detects an interruption mid-sequence or a chemistry mismatch on first contact. Power the device off completely, wait 30 seconds, then power it back on and let the self-test run to full completion without touching any controls. If the fault persists after one clean boot, charge the cell to full and repeat the clean power-on cycle — the BMS clears the fault flag once it completes an uninterrupted verification pass with a cell reading above 3.4V.
