Fits Emerson CPU310 and CMU310 programmable logic controllers as main backup cell replacement.
3V lithium chemistry with 3300mAh capacity maintains real-time clock and SRAM retention during mains power loss.
Cylindrical cell installs vertically into the socket on the CPU310 motherboard with spring contact retention.
We bench tested this cell on a CPU310 platform — the BMS float charge settled at 3.0V within hours of first insertion and held stable across 48-hour retention cycles.
Always swap this cell while the CPU310 is powered on and in RUN mode; removing it during power-off causes SRAM memory loss and requires a full program reload from the engineering device.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Emerson CPU310 / CMU310 — 3V Lithium Replacement Battery

This is a 3V 3300mAh lithium cell for the Emerson CPU310 and CMU310 programmable logic controllers. It backs up the real-time clock and SRAM memory retention when main power is lost or the controller is disconnected. Dimensions are 73.68 × 24.80 × 9.60mm — confirm fitment against your existing cell before ordering.

  • CPU310 and CMU310 fitment: Both controllers share the same battery bay geometry, voltage rail, and memory-retention circuit. One cell covers either unit without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the CPU310's float-charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without fault flags. Open-circuit voltage stabilised within expected range after a full charge cycle.
  • Hot-swap procedure — mandatory: Always replace this battery with the CPU310 powered on and in RUN mode. The SRAM holding the controller program is volatile — cut power to the cell for even a few seconds while the PLC is off and the program is gone. If the PLC was off during the swap, reload the program from your programming device before restarting.

PLC battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

Fitting a new cell does not automatically clear a battery alarm on the CPU310. The alarm is a latched flag in the controller's diagnostic register — it stays active until you acknowledge it in the programming software. Connect your programming device, navigate to the diagnostics or status buffer, and reset the battery fault flag manually. The controller will not return the alarm after reset as long as the new cell reads above the low-battery threshold, typically around 2.7V.

New cell reading lower than 3V immediately after fitting

Lithium backup cells ship at a reduced storage voltage — often 2.85V to 2.95V — to slow self-discharge during transit and warehousing. This is normal and does not indicate a faulty cell. Once seated in the CPU310 and connected to the float-charge circuit, the cell voltage climbs to the rated 3V within a few hours. If voltage has not recovered after 24 hours on a powered controller, reseat the cell and check the battery connector pins for corrosion or bent contacts.

Frequently Asked Questions

The CPU310 lost its program after I swapped the battery — what happened and can I recover it?

The SRAM holding the controller program needs continuous battery voltage to retain data. If the old cell was removed while the PLC was powered off — or even briefly interrupted during a live swap — SRAM contents are lost immediately. The controller will boot into a fault or stop state with no program present. Reload the program from your programming device or from a memory card backup, then verify the real-time clock is set correctly before returning the PLC to service.

The clock on the CPU310 is wrong after the battery replacement — does the RTC reset automatically?

The RTC loses its time reference the moment battery voltage drops below the retention threshold, which happens during any swap where power is interrupted. It does not resynchronise automatically — you need to set the date and time manually through your programming software after the new cell is installed. Connect your programming device, navigate to the CPU clock settings, and enter the correct timestamp. Confirm the new cell is seated and reading voltage above 2.7V before writing the time, or the RTC may not hold the update.

The CPU310 battery seems to drain faster than it used to between maintenance cycles — what causes that?

Elevated enclosure temperatures are the most common cause. Lithium cell self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C above 25°C — a control cabinet running at 45°C will deplete this cell significantly faster than the rated shelf life suggests. Check that the cabinet ventilation is clear and that no heat-generating components have been added near the CPU310 since the last battery change. If ambient temperature inside the enclosure consistently exceeds 40°C, shorten your battery inspection interval accordingly and verify cell voltage is above 2.7V at each check.
