Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Emporia AK-V28 / AK-V29 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AK-V28-BC)
This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion battery for the Emporia AK-V28, AK-V29, Talk Plus, and Talk Premium handsets. It replaces OEM part numbers AK-V28-BC and AK-V29-BC. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds charge or the phone shuts down before reaching zero percent.
- AK-V28 and AK-V29 platform fit: Both handsets share the same PCB layout, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers all listed models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the AK-V28 chassis. The BMS accepted the charge profile without triggering overcurrent cutoff, and voltage held within spec at the 3.7V nominal rail throughout.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after install: On first use, let the phone discharge to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before use. This gives the fuel gauge IC one complete reference cycle against the new cell's actual discharge curve — skip it and the percentage readout will drift.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Emporia AK-V28
The AK-V28 fuel gauge IC stores a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. A new cell has a slightly different voltage-to-capacity slope, so the IC miscalculates remaining charge. When the modem fires during a call or the screen backlight peaks, current draw spikes and actual cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold — even though the display showed 25%. One full discharge-charge cycle after installation resets the coulomb counter and corrects this behaviour.
Phone won't power on after the battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell drops below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent further discharge damage. The phone will not respond to the power button and may show nothing on screen. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage climbs above the BMS re-enable threshold, typically around 2.9V, at which point normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Emporia AK-V28 shows 25% battery but cuts off during a phone call — is the new cell faulty?
The cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC on the AK-V28 was calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve, so it misreads the new cell's remaining capacity. Under the current spike of an active call, actual voltage drops below the BMS cutoff even though the display shows charge remaining. Run one complete discharge to auto-shutdown followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 100% — this resets the coulomb counter to the new cell and stops the premature cutoff.
The battery percentage on my Emporia Talk Plus is jumping around erratically after fitting this battery — what's causing it?
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against the new cell. It has no stored reference for the replacement cell's voltage-to-capacity curve, so reported percentage swings until it builds enough data. The jumping typically settles after two or three full discharge-charge cycles. Do not interrupt those cycles mid-way — partial cycles extend the recalibration period.
My Emporia AK-V29 feels warm near the battery during the first few charges after replacement — should I stop charging?
Mild warmth on the first few charges is normal. A new cell starts with higher internal impedance than a conditioned one, so the charge IC dissipates slightly more energy as heat during the initial constant-current phase. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or charging stops before reaching 100%, remove it from the charger and let it cool to room temperature before resuming. Warmth that disappears after three or four cycles is not a fault — abnormal heat that persists beyond that warrants checking the charger output voltage against the 4.2V charge ceiling for this cell.
