Fits ERC LFE 03B, LFE 05B, LFE 05S emergency lighting units replacing OEM part 098017/960 or 803169.
3.6V, 4000mAh nickel-cadmium cell maintains full illumination output during mains power loss on these COMBITRONIC fittings.
Cylindrical Ni-CD pack slides into the vertical battery slot with polarized connector — orientation marked on the fitting housing.
We bench-tested the cell on simulated mains-loss load; BMS controller accepted the new pack voltage within 30 seconds of installation.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours by holding the test button for full duration — this confirms the charge controller recognizes the new cell capacity before compliance testing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ERC LFE 03B / LFE 05B Series — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (098017/960)

This is a 3.6V, 4000mAh nickel-cadmium replacement cell for ERC emergency lighting units including the LFE 03B, LFE 05B, LFE 05S, and COMBITRONIC system. It slots into the fitting in place of the original ERC cell (OEM references 098017/960 and 803169). Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly — no modification needed to the charge circuit.

  • LFE 03B, LFE 05B, LFE 05S, and COMBITRONIC compatibility: All four units share the same 3.6V trickle-charge circuit and use the same physical cell format (221 × 37.5 × 33.5mm). The charge controller in each fitting expects a Ni-CD cell at this voltage — swapping chemistry or capacity would push the cell outside the charge acceptance window and cause a persistent fault LED.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and load test using a controlled discharge rig. The cell held voltage above the 3.0V cutoff for the rated duration and the BMS registered a healthy charge state on reconnection.
  • Post-installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load under real conditions and allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A Ni-CD cell coming out of long-term storage often sits at a lower resting voltage than the fitting's float acceptance window expects. The charge controller reads this as a fault rather than a depleted cell. Leave the fitting powered for 24–48 hours and the trickle charger will bring the cell voltage up into the acceptance range. If the indicator remains red past 48 hours, check the cell terminal connection and confirm contact resistance is below 0.5Ω at the tab joint.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-CD cell does not deliver rated capacity on its first discharge — the cell needs at least one full charge-discharge cycle to reach the 4000mAh figure. If the unit cuts out before the test duration completes, run one full conditioning cycle: charge for 24 hours, then trigger the test button and allow a complete discharge. Recharge for another 24 hours before the official compliance test. Rated capacity should be present from the second cycle onward.

Frequently Asked Questions

The emergency light dims and then cuts out a few minutes into the duration test — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. A Ni-CD cell fresh from storage hasn't been through a charge-discharge cycle and won't deliver its full 4000mAh on the first activation. Run one full conditioning cycle — 24 hours on charge, then a complete test discharge, then another 24 hours on charge — before judging the cell. If the light still dims early after that second charge, measure the cell terminal voltage under load; it should stay above 3.0V throughout the test duration.

The fitting's fault LED is still on after I've confirmed the new cell is seated correctly — what's causing it?

Some ERC fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and won't self-clear even after the fault condition is resolved. With mains power present, locate the reset button on the fitting's control board — usually a small tactile switch near the terminal block — and press it for three seconds. If no dedicated reset button is present, cut mains power to the fitting for 30 seconds, then restore it; this forces the controller to re-read the cell state from scratch.

Can the battery swell or leak if it stays in the fitting for years on continuous trickle charge?

Yes. Ni-CD cells on a continuous trickle charge in a warm fitting can experience overcharge over several years, which generates internal gas pressure and causes casing deformation. If the removed cell shows any bulging or electrolyte residue on the terminals, clean the battery bay with isopropyl alcohol before fitting the new cell. Check that the fitting's charge voltage is within the 1.40–1.45V per cell range specified in the ERC installation sheet — a charge voltage above this accelerates the problem.
