Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SATCO/NUVO Freedom Emergency Fixture — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (25-9002)

This 11.1V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery pack replaces the backup cell in the SATCO/NUVO Freedom Emergency Fixture (25-9002). It restores the fixture's ability to maintain illumination during mains failure events. Capacity is rated at 28.86Wh — use the figure from the product data, not the original label if faded.

  • Freedom 25-9002 fit: The 25-9002 fixture uses an 11.1V three-cell Li-ion pack with a specific connector orientation and BMS handshake that confirms cell presence to the charge controller — this pack matches that configuration exactly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and simulated mains dropout. The BMS held output voltage within spec under load, and the charge controller transitioned from bulk charge to float without flagging a fault.
  • First test cycle after installation: Perform a manual test within 24 hours of fitting by holding the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity before your next scheduled compliance test.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A freshly shipped Li-ion pack often sits at a storage voltage below the float acceptance window the Freedom fixture's charge controller expects. If the cell voltage is too low on connection, the controller can flag a fault rather than begin charging. Leave the fixture connected to mains for a minimum of 24 hours before concluding the battery is faulty. If the indicator is still red after 24 hours, measure the pack voltage at the connector — a reading below 9V indicates the cell discharged past the BMS recovery threshold during storage.

Emergency light dimming partway through a duration test

A new cell that has not completed one full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated 28.86Wh on the first activation. The charge controller may have registered partial capacity, causing the fixture to dim or cut output before the test duration completes. This is not a defective battery — it is an uncharged one. Run the fixture on mains charge for a full 24 hours, then repeat the duration test. Rated output should hold across the full test period once the cell has reached a complete charge state above 12.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Freedom fixture passed the last compliance test but failed the duration test after I fitted this new battery — is the cell defective?

Almost certainly not. A new Li-ion pack shipped at storage voltage will not deliver full rated capacity on its first activation — the cell needs one complete charge cycle before it reaches 28.86Wh. Fit the battery, restore mains power, and leave the fixture charging for a full 24 hours before running the duration test again. If it still fails after that conditioning cycle, measure pack voltage at the connector — it should read above 12.4V before the test begins.

The fault LED is still lit on the fitting even though the battery connector is seated correctly — what's wrong?

Several Freedom fixture variants latch the fault LED in hardware and do not reset it automatically when a new cell is connected. The LED stays on regardless of whether the new battery is good. Locate the reset procedure in your fixture's installation sheet — typically a press-and-hold of the test button for five or more seconds with mains live. After reset, the indicator should shift from fault to charging status within a few minutes.

The original battery pack looks swollen — can I just push it back in until the new one arrives?

Do not reinstall a swollen Li-ion pack. Swelling means the cell has experienced gas buildup from overcharge or heat damage, and continuing to charge it creates a fire risk inside a sealed fitting. Remove it immediately and store it flat on a non-flammable surface away from the fixture. Fit the replacement before restoring mains power to the circuit — leaving the fitting unpowered is safer than running a compromised cell.
