Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Exit Light Co ELR-G / ELR-R Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BAA-48R)
This is a 4.8V, 1500mAh Ni-MH cell pack replacing the BAA-48R battery in Exit Light Co emergency exit fixtures. It fits the ELR-G, ELR-R, LEDG3B, LEDGBB, and related models in this range. Voltage and cell count match the original so the onboard charge controller operates within its normal float parameters.
- ELR and LED series compatibility: These fixtures share a 4.8V four-cell NiMH architecture and the same connector footprint. The charge controller in each model runs a constant-current float topped at roughly 5.5V — this cell pack sits within that acceptance window without triggering a fault state.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through a full discharge-to-cutoff and back to float charge. The BMS registered charge acceptance within 20 minutes of connection and held a stable float current through a complete 90-minute rated duration run.
- First-cycle load confirmation: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load under real conditions and lets the charge controller register actual capacity before any scheduled compliance test counts against the fitting.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A freshly installed NiMH pack that has been in storage will not deliver full rated capacity on its first activation. The cells need at least one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach the 1500mAh figure stamped on the label. If a compliance test runs before that first conditioning cycle completes, the light will cut out early and log a failure. Run a manual test cycle immediately after installation — do not wait for the scheduled test to serve as the first discharge.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
Some Exit Light Co fittings latch a fault LED when cell voltage drops below the float acceptance threshold during storage — this is a controller state, not a cell defect. The charge circuit needs to see the pack voltage climb above approximately 4.2V before it exits fault mode and switches the indicator to green. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 24-hour charge cycle before concluding there is a wiring or cell fault. If the indicator remains red after 24 hours, disconnect and reseat the connector to rule out a floating contact.

Frequently Asked Questions
The exit light passed every test for years — why does it fail the duration test right after I put in a new battery?
A NiMH pack that has sat in storage loses charge and needs a full conditioning cycle before it delivers rated capacity under load. The charge controller in these fittings does not flag this — it shows green once float voltage is reached, regardless of actual stored energy. Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation and let the pack discharge fully before recharging. After that first complete cycle the cell will hold the full 1500mAh and pass a timed duration test.
The light comes on during a mains-fail test but dims noticeably after a few minutes — is the new battery faulty?
This is a first-activation capacity issue, not a faulty cell. A stored NiMH pack delivers surface charge on the first draw, then voltage sags once that surface layer is exhausted and the bulk of the cell hasn't been conditioned yet. It looks like a failing battery but it is a new one that hasn't completed its first charge-discharge cycle. Charge it on mains for 24 hours, then run a full manual test — the dimming behaviour will not repeat.
The fitting shows a fault LED even though I confirmed the new battery is seated and wired correctly — what resets it?
Certain Exit Light Co controllers latch the fault state when they detect a low-voltage pack and do not self-clear once voltage recovers. The latch requires the cell voltage to rise above the float acceptance threshold — roughly 4.2V — before the controller will release the fault LED. Leave the unit on mains power for a full 24-hour charge before assuming the cell or wiring is bad. If the fault LED persists past 24 hours, disconnect the battery connector, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly to force the controller to re-poll the pack voltage.
