Fits Unitech emergency lighting units with AA500MAH, D-AA500mAh, CFS47NC, or 80048800 battery slots.
4.8V and 1500mAh capacity powers standard emergency exit lights through full-duration discharge cycles.
Four AA-size cells connect in series; the pack slides into the light fitting with straight insertion and friction retention.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on a Unitech charge controller; the BMS accepted float charge without fault codes within eight hours.
Run a manual test-button cycle within 24 hours of installation — this allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before your next compliance duration test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Unitech AA500MAH — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery for Emergency Lighting

This is a 4.8V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Unitech emergency lighting units. It fits fittings that reference part numbers AA500MAH, D-AA500mAh, CFS47NC, or 80048800. Swap it in to restore the backup illumination function when the original cell has degraded or failed to hold charge.

  • Emergency lighting pack compatibility: These part numbers share the same 4-cell Ni-MH pack configuration, 4.8V nominal rail, and flat-tab connector layout. A fitting wired for one will accept any of these references without modification to the harness or charge controller.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full trickle-charge cycle and a simulated mains-failure discharge. The BMS held stable voltage across the full discharge curve and the charge controller moved from red to green within the expected window.
  • First-cycle test requirement: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of installation. This lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity and confirms the pack accepts load before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-MH cell rarely ships at full capacity. Storage discharge, transport temperature, and shelf time all reduce the initial state of charge before the pack ever sees the fitting's trickle charger. On the first test cycle, the cell may not sustain output for the full rated period even though the battery itself is not faulty. Allow 24 hours on charge before performing any compliance test. One complete charge-discharge cycle is enough for the cell to reach its rated 1500mAh capacity.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery is installed

The charge controller in most emergency fittings uses a voltage threshold to decide whether to enter float charge and flip the LED green. A cell that has sat in storage for months may present a resting voltage just outside that acceptance window, keeping the indicator red even after correct installation. Leave the fitting powered on mains for a full 24 hours — the controller will detect the rising cell voltage once charging begins and switch state. If the indicator is still red after 24 hours, measure the pack voltage directly; it should read between 5.4V and 5.8V on a fully charged 4.8V Ni-MH pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

My emergency light passed the flash test but then dimmed and cut out after just a few minutes — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. A Ni-MH cell that has been in storage will often start a discharge cycle at reduced capacity until it completes one full charge-discharge conditioning cycle. The cell is drawing down whatever partial charge it arrived with, not its full 1500mAh. Charge the fitting on mains for 24 hours, then repeat the duration test. Capacity typically reaches its rated level after that first complete cycle.

The fitting still shows a fault LED even though the battery is correctly seated and the connections are clean — what's wrong?

Some emergency light fittings latch a fault condition in firmware and will not clear it automatically after a battery change. The fault LED stays on until you perform a manual reset, usually by holding the test button for 3–5 seconds while the fitting is on mains power. Check the fitting's label or housing for a reset procedure specific to that model. Once reset, the controller re-polls the cell voltage and clears the fault if the pack is within range.

The old battery was swollen and had leaked inside the fitting — can we just fit a new pack and carry on?

No. A swollen Ni-MH pack is a sign of overcharge damage, usually from a failed charge controller running continuous trickle current at elevated temperature over several years. Fitting a new cell into a fitting with a faulty charge controller will reproduce the same damage within months. Inspect the charge board for discolouration or burnt components before reinstalling. If the controller is suspect, the fitting itself needs to be replaced before the new battery is installed.
