Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fairphone 3 / 3+ — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (F3AC1)
This is a 3.85V, 2900mAh Li-Polymer cell for the Fairphone 3 and Fairphone 3+. Both models use the same F3AC1 battery format with the same connector and BMS handshake. The Fairphone 3's tool-free battery bay lets you swap this in without opening a service ticket.
- Fairphone 3 and 3+ compatibility: Both devices share an identical battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — the same cell covers both platforms without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the Fairphone 3 platform. The BMS handshook correctly on the first cycle, charge current ramped as expected, and the cell held 2900mAh within normal tolerance across repeat passes.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter to the new cell's discharge curve before fast charge current is applied to an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Fairphone 3 after a cell swap
The Fairphone 3's fuel gauge IC holds calibration data from the old cell. When a new cell goes in, the coulomb counter still references the old discharge curve, so it misreads remaining capacity. Under modem or display load, actual cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold before the OS percentage reaches zero. The phone cuts out because the cell voltage is real — the percentage figure is wrong. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the curve and clears the mismatch.
USB-PD fast charge not accepted on the first cycle after replacement
A new cell's internal impedance is higher than a conditioned cell, and the Fairphone 3's charge IC is conservative on first contact with an uncalibrated BMS. Some users see the phone lock to slow 5V/1A charging and refuse to negotiate the fast-charge profile on cycle one. This is a BMS protection response, not a fault with the charger or cable. Complete one full standard charge cycle first — after that, reconnect your USB-PD charger and fast charge should negotiate normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Fairphone 3 percentage is jumping around after I put the new battery in — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC is still running calibration data from your old battery and its coulomb counter hasn't mapped to the new cell's discharge curve yet. Run one complete discharge to auto-shutdown, then charge to 100% without unplugging. After that single cycle, the percentage reading should stabilise.
The phone feels warm near the battery compartment while charging — is that normal with a new cell?
A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a fully conditioned one, so the charge IC works slightly harder on early cycles, generating a small amount of extra heat. Warmth during charging on the first few cycles is expected and reduces as the cell conditions. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or charging stops prematurely, check that the battery contacts are fully seated and the bay cover is closed flat — a loose connection increases resistance and heat further.
My Fairphone 3 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat unused for a few months — how do I recover it?
A cell left uncharged in storage can drop below 2.5V per cell, triggering BMS lockout — the protection circuit disconnects output to prevent damage, so the phone sees no voltage and won't boot. Connect the phone to a wall charger (not a USB hub) and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will trickle-charge the cell back above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.9–3.0V, after which the phone should respond to a normal power-on press.
