Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Falk M2 / M4 / M6 / M8 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (57181740068)

This 3.7V, 750mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Falk M2, M4, M6, and M8 portable GPS navigators. It restores power to the device's display, processor, and GPS receiver. Capacity figures are taken directly from product data — 750mAh / 2.78Wh.

  • M2 / M4 / M6 / M8 platform fit: These four Falk navigator models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. One cell covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS held cutoff voltage correctly at both ends — no undervoltage dropout and no overcharge condition observed during testing.
  • First-fix cold start after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors before driving. The GPS performs a full cold start after any complete power interruption — first satellite fix can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is re-cached.

GPS accuracy reduced as the Falk M2 battery level drops

At low charge, some Falk navigators reduce power to the GPS receiver module to protect the remaining cell voltage. This lowers receiver sensitivity and can cause position drift or signal loss in areas with partial sky cover. The symptom often appears before the low-battery icon shows, because the receiver steps down before the display threshold is hit. Keeping the cell above 3.5V during active navigation avoids the sensitivity reduction entirely.

Falk navigator shuts off without warning during a route

After a new cell is fitted, the fuel gauge IC has no calibration history for the replacement cell's actual discharge curve. The device's low-battery warning threshold can trigger too late — or not at all — causing an abrupt shutdown. Run two full charge and discharge cycles to let the gauge recalibrate against the new cell. After that, the indicator should align with actual remaining charge and cut off around 3.4V as expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Falk M2 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it happens on most GPS units that store waypoints and route data in battery-backed RAM. When the cell is fully removed, that RAM loses power and clears. Some navigators write routes to flash storage and recover them on reboot, but others do not — the Falk M-series stores certain user data in volatile memory. Re-enter your routes after the swap, then export them to the SD card or PC software so the next battery change does not wipe them again.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after I fitted the new battery — was something damaged?

Nothing is damaged. This is a cold start — the navigator lost its cached almanac and ephemeris data when the cell was fully discharged or removed. The GPS receiver has to download fresh orbital data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes with clear sky view. Park the unit outdoors in an open area, leave it stationary, and let it complete the first fix before mounting it in the car. Every subsequent start will lock in under a minute once the almanac is stored again.

The Falk M6 battery drains noticeably faster when I use it for active turn-by-turn navigation than when I leave it on the dash doing nothing — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, map renderer, and display backlight simultaneously at full load. Standby or sleep mode cuts the receiver polling rate and dims or blanks the screen, so the draw drops sharply. Reducing display brightness is the single most effective way to extend charge during a long drive — the screen is the highest-draw component in the system. Keep brightness at the lowest comfortable setting and the cell will last significantly longer per charge cycle.
