Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fly FS518 Cirrus 13 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BL9601)

This is a 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Fly FS518 and Cirrus 13 smartphones. It carries OEM part number BL9601 and slots into the same battery bay as the original cell. Use it when the factory battery no longer holds a charge or the phone shuts down unexpectedly under load.

  • FS518 and Cirrus 13 compatibility: Both models run on the same 3.7V Li-Polymer cell with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol, so one part number covers both. No adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the FS518 chassis. The BMS accepted the charge IC handshake correctly on the first cycle, and protection cutoffs triggered at expected voltage thresholds.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated state.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the FS518 after a cell swap

This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under modem or screen load before the gauge reads zero — the phone interprets it as a crash, not a low-battery shutdown. The fix is one full uninterrupted discharge-charge cycle with the screen on and mobile data active. After that cycle, the coulomb counter resets against the new cell and the percentage readout stabilises.

Phone warm near the battery compartment on the first few charges

A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a worn cell. The charge IC on the FS518 pushes the same current profile it used on the degraded original, which generates more heat until the cell's impedance drops after a few cycles. This is normal and typically resolves within three to five charge cycles. If the phone stays warm beyond that point, check that the battery contacts are seated flush — a partial contact forces the IC to compensate with higher voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Fly FS518 powers off at around 25% battery even though the replacement is brand new — what's going on?

The fuel gauge IC on the FS518 is still calibrated to the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell. When the new cell hits a voltage drop under modem or display load, the phone cuts out before the percentage reaches zero. Run one full discharge cycle — screen on, mobile data active — down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That resets the coulomb counter against the new cell's actual curve.

Fast charging stopped working after I fitted the BL9601 — the phone just charges slowly now.

On the first cycle after a cell swap, the FS518's charge IC may not complete the proprietary handshake with the new BMS until the cell has been through at least one full charge. Use a standard 5V charger for the first complete cycle rather than a fast-charge adapter. After that cycle, reconnect the fast charger — the BMS will accept the higher-current profile once it has a baseline calibration from the first cycle.

My FS518 won't turn on at all after the BL9601 sat in a drawer for several months before I fitted it.

Li-Polymer cells in storage self-discharge gradually. If the cell dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent damage and will not pass current to the phone. Connect the phone to a low-current 5V charger and leave it for 30–60 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC needs time to trickle current past the BMS lockout threshold. Once the cell climbs above 3.0V the phone should power on normally.
