Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Franklin Wireless MHS800L — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This is a 3.8V 2100mAh Li-ion battery for the Franklin Wireless MHS800L mobile hotspot. It slots into the MHS800L's battery bay and restores full charging capacity to the unit. The hotspot creates a portable 4G LTE WiFi network for travelers and remote workers who need connectivity away from fixed internet access.
- MHS800L fit: The MHS800L runs its cellular modem and WiFi radio off a single 3.8V Li-ion cell. This battery matches that voltage rail and the physical dimensions of the bay — 58.55 × 50.71 × 6.86mm — so the cover seats correctly and the contacts align.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under combined cellular modem and WiFi load — four connected client devices, mid-range signal. The BMS held stable voltage through the draw cycle and tripped protection at the correct low-voltage threshold without cutting out prematurely.
- Ventilation during long sessions: Keep the MHS800L on a hard, flat surface during extended use — not in a pocket or bag. When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio runs at maximum transmit power, and trapping that heat accelerates cell wear.
Hotspot disconnecting users mid-session on a new battery
The MHS800L draws from two simultaneous loads — the cellular modem and the WiFi radio. At maximum connected devices, that combined draw can pull voltage down faster than a degraded or low-capacity cell can recover. The BMS interprets the sag as a low-voltage event and cuts output to protect the cell, which drops all connected clients. A fresh 2100mAh cell with a healthy internal resistance handles these combined spikes without triggering the cutoff.
MHS800L won't power on after sitting unused
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage — typically 1–2% per month at room temperature. If the MHS800L sat unused for several months, the battery may have dropped below the minimum boot voltage, which is around 3.0V on this cell chemistry. The BMS blocks charging from that state on some chargers to prevent an unsafe charge into a deeply depleted cell. Connect the hotspot to a wall adapter and leave it for 15–30 minutes before attempting to power on — a USB port may not supply enough current to recover the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My MHS800L battery drains way faster when I'm in a weak signal area — is that normal or is the battery bad?
That's normal behaviour from the cellular radio, not a battery fault. In poor signal areas, the modem increases transmit power to maintain the connection, which pulls significantly more current from the cell than it does in strong-signal conditions. Add multiple connected devices on top of that and you're running near-peak draw continuously. Move the hotspot closer to a window or higher elevation to improve signal — that single change reduces radio draw more than any other adjustment.
The MHS800L shows fully charged but drops to 10% and shuts off within minutes of unplugging — what's happening?
This is capacity fade in the original cell — the battery gauge is reading voltage, not actual remaining capacity, so it reports "full" even though the cell can no longer hold a meaningful charge. A worn Li-ion cell holds surface voltage well at rest but collapses under the combined modem and WiFi load. Replacing the cell resets the usable capacity — after fitting the new battery, run it through two full charge cycles before trusting the percentage indicator.
After I replaced the battery, my hotspot gets noticeably warm within 20 minutes — should I be concerned?
Some warmth is expected — the cellular radio generates heat during continuous transmission, and the MHS800L's compact enclosure has limited airflow. The concern is when the unit becomes hot to the touch, not just warm, which signals the modem is running at maximum output power for an extended period. Check that the hotspot isn't sitting on a soft surface like a couch or bed that blocks airflow from the base. Move it to a hard flat surface in open air and confirm the signal strength indicator shows at least two bars — stronger signal means lower transmit power and less heat.
