Fits Fujikura FSM-21S, FSM-22S, FSM-27S, FSM-28S fusion splicers; replaces BTR-11, LTR-21, BTR-11A, S017354.
14.4V, 3400mAh lithium-ion pack powers the splicer's heating element and motor during field fiber splicing operations.
Slide connector seats into the battery bay with a mechanical locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this cell in the FSM-21S heating cycle—BMS accepted the pack on first insert with no fault codes or voltage dropouts.
After installation, run a full splice cycle through the splicer's diagnostics menu before field deployment; the FSM-21S maps battery state during operation and skipping this step triggers false low-battery warnings mid-job.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fujikura FSM-21S / FSM-22S Series — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTR-11)

This 14.4V, 3400mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the BTR-11 and LTR-21 packs used in Fujikura FSM-21S, FSM-22S, FSM-27S, and FSM-28S fusion splicers. These splicers run precise heating elements and arc motors during fiber splicing — both draws hit the battery simultaneously. At 48.96Wh, this pack meets the energy budget those dual loads require.

  • FSM-21S through FSM-28S platform fit: These four splicer models share a common 14.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. A single pack family covers the full range because Fujikura kept the power architecture consistent across that generation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated arc-and-motor sequences. The BMS handled the combined inrush current from arc initiation without tripping into protection mode, and cell voltage stayed stable across the discharge curve.
  • Field deployment prep for fusion splicers: After installing this pack, run the splicer through its electrode conditioning routine before your first splice job. The splicer references battery state during that cycle, and skipping it can trigger premature low-battery warnings mid-job when cells are actually at adequate charge.

Why the FSM-21S cuts power during arc discharge

The arc electrode in the FSM-21S pulls a sharp current spike at the moment of fiber fusion — this is the highest single draw the splicer makes. If the BMS registers that spike as an over-current fault, it trips the protection circuit and shuts the pack off. Older or degraded cells can't sustain the voltage under that load, which causes the BMS to cut out even when the battery indicator shows remaining charge. A fresh pack with healthy internal resistance handles the arc current without the voltage sagging below the BMS threshold.

Splicer not recognising the new pack after the unit sat unused

If the FSM-21S shows no battery status or fails to power on after installing this pack, the BMS is likely in deep-sleep mode from prolonged storage below recovery voltage. Connect the splicer to its AC adapter first and leave it for 15–20 minutes before attempting to power on — the charger wakes the BMS protection circuit by pushing a low-current recovery charge into the cells. Once the pack responds, the splicer will display battery status normally. Cell voltage should read at or above 12.0V before the BMS fully re-initialises.

Frequently Asked Questions

The FSM-21S shows a full battery on screen but shuts down the moment the arc fires — what's happening?

The arc electrode pulls a sharp current spike at fusion, and if internal cell resistance is too high, pack voltage collapses below the BMS cutoff threshold in that instant — even when the indicator reads full. This is a cell-health failure, not a charge failure. A new pack with lower internal resistance sustains voltage through the arc event without tripping protection. Install the replacement and run the electrode conditioning routine before your first splice to let the splicer map the new pack's discharge curve.

The battery percentage jumps erratically on the display every time I reboot the FSM-22S — is the pack faulty?

The FSM-22S fuel gauge re-references cell voltage at power-up, and a new pack with a different resting voltage profile can confuse the indicator until it accumulates a few discharge-charge cycles. This isn't a fault — it's the instrument recalibrating its voltage-to-percentage mapping to the new cells. Run two or three full discharge and charge cycles through normal field use and the percentage reading will stabilise. If it's still erratic after three cycles, check that the battery contacts in the bay are clean and fully seated.

The replacement pack won't take a charge after sitting in the carry case for several months — charger LED stays green immediately.

A green LED on connect means the charger sees cell voltage below its recovery threshold and isn't initiating a charge cycle — the BMS has entered deep-sleep protection. Remove the pack and leave it at room temperature for 30 minutes, then reconnect. If the charger still won't engage, use the FSM's built-in AC adapter port to feed a low-level recovery current directly through the splicer's charging circuit, which bypasses the standalone charger's threshold. Once cell voltage climbs above 10.5V, the BMS wakes and the charger will begin a normal charge cycle.
