Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Eloik ALK-80 / ALK-88 Series — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ALK-618650A)
This is a 10.8V, 5200mAh (56.16Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Eloik ALK-80, ALK-88, ALK-88A, and HH-88 survey and measurement instruments. It uses OEM part number ALK-618650A and fits the same battery bay without modification. Voltage and connector match the original pack exactly.
- ALK-80 / ALK-88 platform compatibility: All four fit models share the same 10.8V power rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The instrument draws battery identification data through the same contact array on each unit, so one pack covers the entire platform without any firmware conflict.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a load tester configured to simulate the combined draw of the ALK-80 sensor array and display. The BMS responded correctly to charge termination, over-discharge cutoff, and short-circuit protection at each threshold.
- First-use calibration before field deployment: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before taking it to site. The ALK-80 maps battery state during that calibration pass — skipping it causes the low-battery indicator to fire early on the first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.
BMS cutoff when the ALK-80 probe module powers up
When the ALK-80 initialises its probe or sensor module, it pulls a short current spike that can exceed the BMS protection threshold of an aged or cold cell pack. A healthy pack at full charge absorbs this spike without tripping. An aged pack with elevated internal resistance sees a momentary voltage sag that crosses the BMS cutoff point, causing an immediate shutdown. This replacement pack has a lower internal resistance profile that handles the initialisation spike without triggering protection. If the instrument still cuts out on probe startup, charge the pack to 12.6V before retrying — cold cells sag harder than warm ones.
Pack will not charge after months sitting unused in a carry case
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly over storage. If an ALK-618650A pack drops below approximately 9V during a long storage period, the BMS enters sleep mode and blocks the charge path as a safety measure. A standard charger sees no response and stops — it looks like a dead pack. To recover it, use a charger with a recovery or boost mode that applies a low precharge current (around 100mA) to bring the cell voltage back above the BMS wake threshold of roughly 9.5–10V. Once the BMS wakes, normal charging resumes. If the pack does not respond after 30 minutes of precharge, the cells have dropped below recovery voltage and the pack should be replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ALK-80 shuts off instantly the moment I start a measurement session — the battery shows full charge on screen. What's happening?
This is a voltage dropout under sustained sensor load, not a charge state problem. When the instrument activates its sensor array continuously during a logging session, current draw increases and an aged or marginal pack sags below the instrument's cutoff voltage for a fraction of a second — enough to trigger shutdown. A new pack with lower internal resistance holds voltage under that load without sagging. Charge this replacement to full before the session and run the instrument calibration cycle so the battery state indicator maps correctly to the new pack's voltage curve.
The ALK-88 powers on fine but shuts down every time I transfer data to a PC via USB — happens mid-transfer every time.
USB data transfer adds a second current draw on top of the instrument's normal operating load — the display, processor, and USB controller all run simultaneously. On a degraded pack, that combined draw pushes total current high enough to trip the BMS over-current threshold. This replacement pack is rated at 5200mAh with a BMS tuned for the ALK platform's combined draw envelope. If the problem persists after fitting the new pack, transfer data with the instrument charger connected to keep rail voltage stable at 10.8V during the session.
After I replaced the battery, the charge percentage on the ALK-80 display jumps around — reads 80%, then 45%, then 70% on the same boot. Is the new pack faulty?
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator recalibrates itself to the incoming pack's discharge curve, and until that calibration is complete the percentage readout is unreliable. This is normal behaviour on first use with a new cell chemistry profile. Run the full calibration cycle from the instrument menu with the pack charged to 100% — the ALK-80 maps voltage-to-percentage thresholds during that pass. After one complete calibration cycle, the percentage display stabilises and tracks accurately through the discharge curve.
