Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gardena Walk-Behind Lawnmower — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 18V 3000mAh (54Wh) Li-ion battery replaces the PBA 18V series packs used in the Gardena PowerMax 32/36V walk-behind lawnmower and compatible P4A platform tools. The PowerMax 32/36V runs on dual 18V batteries to deliver its 36V cutting power, so a failing cell in either pack pulls the whole mower down. Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly.
- P4A platform compatibility: Gardena's POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE system standardises the 18V rail, connector, and BMS communication across the PowerMax 32/36V, TCS 20, HandyMower 22/18V, and 69-plus additional models — one battery works across the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran full charge/discharge cycles — the BMS held voltage steady under load and tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff without dropping into protect-lock unexpectedly.
- First charge before use: Li-ion cells ship at partial charge for transport safety. Run a full charge cycle before the first mow so the BMS can calibrate its state-of-charge tracking accurately.
How the dual-battery 36V system affects individual pack health
The PowerMax 32/36V draws from two 18V packs wired in series to reach its 36V operating voltage. If one pack degrades faster than the other, the weaker cell group limits total output. Replacing only the weaker pack restores balance. Running both packs at similar cycle counts extends the overall service life of the set.
Mower cuts out mid-lawn — what's happening and how to fix it
Abrupt shutdowns during mowing usually mean the BMS hit its low-voltage cutoff under the high current draw of dense or wet grass. The cells haven't failed — the protection circuit tripped correctly. Let the battery rest for ten minutes, then recharge fully before continuing. If the cutout happens earlier each session, the cells have lost capacity and replacement is due.

Frequently Asked Questions
Mower starts fine then cuts out halfway through the lawn — new battery, same problem
This is almost always the blade hitting a resistance spike — thick, wet, or long grass forces the motor to draw peak current, the battery's protection circuit reads it as an overload, and it trips the pack before the deck can recover. Let the battery cool for ten minutes, then restart on a dry patch of shorter grass to confirm the pack resets cleanly. If it cuts out at the same spot on the lawn every pass, check underneath the deck for compacted clippings restricting blade rotation. Test the resting voltage on the pack after a cutout — it should read above 17V; anything lower means the cells dropped under load and the pack needs a full charge cycle before the next run.
Charged the battery all night and the mower still bogs down in normal grass — not even thick stuff
A battery that shows full charge but sags under real load has usually been stored partially discharged for an extended period, which causes lithium cell voltage to settle unevenly across the pack. Run two full charge-discharge cycles on flat, dry grass before judging performance — the BMS needs to rebalance the cells after a storage period. On the bench, we see this most often with 18V P4A packs that sat unused through winter; the 36Wh and 45Wh packs are more susceptible than the 72Wh because they have less cell headroom to absorb the imbalance. After the second cycle, check whether the mower maintains blade speed through a turn — sustained bog through a turn confirms cell imbalance, not a deck or motor issue.
Battery works in my other P4A tools but the PowerMax 32 won't recognise it — no lights, nothing
The PowerMax 32/36V runs two 18V batteries in series to reach its operating voltage, so if the second battery slot is empty or the second pack has a tripped protection circuit, the mower sees an incomplete circuit and won't power on at all. Check that both battery slots are fully seated — the click needs to be firm on both sides, not just one. If one pack was recently deep-discharged (left in the mower after it cut out), that pack's BMS may be in lockout and needs to be placed on the charger alone to reset before it will communicate with the mower again. Seat the suspect pack in a different P4A tool first; if that tool also shows no response, the pack is in protection lockout, not the mower.
