Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Nuvi 700 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (010-00657-05)

This 3.7V, 1250mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Nuvi 700 (2-wire connector) portable GPS navigator. It restores the unit's ability to run navigation, mapping, and real-time route guidance away from a vehicle power source. Rated at 4.63Wh, it matches the original cell's voltage rail and physical footprint.

  • Nuvi 700 2-wire fitment: The Nuvi 700 uses a dedicated 2-wire connector with no fuel-gauge data line — the device reads voltage directly to estimate charge level. This cell matches that connector pinout and the BMS stays within the voltage window the Nuvi 700 expects, preventing false low-battery shutoffs at the top of the charge curve.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Nuvi 700 unit. The BMS held a stable 4.2V at full charge and cut off cleanly at the lower threshold without triggering premature shutdown.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell and powering on, take the GPS outdoors before first use. A full power interruption clears the ephemeris cache, so the unit runs a cold start — first satellite fix takes 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once the cache rebuilds.

Why the Nuvi 700 shuts off without warning at low battery

The Nuvi 700 estimates remaining charge by reading cell voltage — it does not use a coulomb counter. After years of use, the original cell's internal resistance rises, causing voltage to sag sharply under the display and GPS receiver load. The unit hits its low-voltage cutoff before the on-screen indicator reaches one bar, so the device just goes dark with no warning. A new cell with lower internal resistance holds voltage flat under load, and the on-screen indicator tracks more accurately again.

Saved routes and favourites missing after battery swap

The Nuvi 700 stores favourites and saved routes in flash memory, but some session data and recent destinations sit in battery-backed RAM. A full power removal — which battery replacement causes — flushes that volatile memory. Favourites saved to the unit's internal storage before the swap should survive, but unsaved recent destinations and active route progress will not. Before pulling the old cell, back up favourites via Garmin's My Trips or note the coordinates manually, then reload them after the new cell is fitted and the unit has booted cleanly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nuvi 700 still shows two battery bars, then dies immediately — is the new cell faulty?

This is a calibration issue, not a faulty cell. The Nuvi 700 reads voltage to estimate charge, and after a fresh install the voltage curve the device expects no longer matches the new cell's actual discharge curve. Run the battery down fully until the unit shuts itself off, then charge uninterrupted to 4.2V. After one full cycle the voltage-to-indicator mapping realigns and the shut-off warning appears at the correct point.

Satellite lock is taking over eight minutes after fitting this battery — was something damaged during the swap?

Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery wipes the ephemeris data the GPS receiver stores to speed up lock. Without that cached satellite timing data, the Nuvi 700 runs a cold start, which takes 5 to 10 minutes outdoors with clear sky view. Leave the unit stationary outside for the first fix — moving the device during acquisition resets the search. Once the cache rebuilds, subsequent locks drop back under a minute.

Active navigation drains this battery noticeably faster than just sitting on the home screen — is that normal?

Yes, and the load difference is significant. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously, keeps the display at high brightness, and recalculates routes — all at the same time. Standby or home-screen use drops receiver polling frequency and dims the display. Reduce screen brightness in the Nuvi 700's display settings and, where possible, plug into the vehicle power adapter for long routes to keep the cell from cycling unnecessarily.
