Fits Magellan RoadMate 1400, 1430, 1412, 1445 GPS navigators; replaces OEM part 5390-B101-0780.
3.7V, 1300mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers 4.81Wh total energy for full touchscreen and GPS operation.
Connector slides straight in; locking tab seats flush against the battery compartment — no forcing required.
We ran discharge cycles at standard load; BMS held stable voltage delivery throughout active navigation without early cutoff.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation — cold start takes 5-10 minutes after power interruption versus under one minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magellan RoadMate 1400 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (5390-B101-0780)

This 3.7V, 1300mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Magellan RoadMate 1400, 1412, 1430, and 1445 portable GPS navigators. It restores power to the touchscreen display and GPS receiver when the original cell has degraded or failed. Capacity is 4.81Wh at a physical size of 60.22 × 36.14 × 4.91mm.

  • RoadMate 1400 series compatibility: The 1400, 1412, 1430, and 1445 all share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. One cell covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the RoadMate platform. The BMS held charge termination correctly and the device booted without triggering low-voltage lockout.
  • First-fix after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors before driving. A cold start after full power removal takes 5–10 minutes to acquire a satellite fix. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute. Skipping this step outdoors before first use can make the unit appear unresponsive to satellite signals.

RoadMate shutting off without warning at apparent mid-charge levels

When an aged battery is swapped out, the device's voltage-to-charge indicator is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. The new cell holds a flatter voltage curve through most of its capacity, then drops sharply near the end. The RoadMate interprets that final voltage drop as an immediate cutoff rather than a low-battery warning, so the screen goes dark without showing the usual alert. Running the unit through two or three full discharge-and-charge cycles recalibrates the indicator — charge to 4.2V and discharge until automatic shutdown each cycle.

GPS accuracy dropping noticeably during long navigation sessions

Some RoadMate units reduce GPS receiver sensitivity when battery voltage sags below approximately 3.5V under load. At reduced sensitivity, the unit may drop from six or more satellites down to three or four, which is enough to degrade positioning accuracy on tight urban routes. This is a firmware-level power-saving behaviour, not a hardware fault. Keeping the unit plugged into the vehicle charger during extended trips bypasses the threshold entirely and keeps the receiver at full sensitivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My saved routes and favourites disappeared after swapping the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The RoadMate stores some route and POI data in RAM that is backed by battery voltage. When the cell is fully removed, that memory loses power and the stored data clears. Favourites saved to internal flash storage survive the swap, but recently entered routes or unsaved stops do not. Before removing the old battery, export or note any routes you need — there is no recovery path after the cell comes out.

The GPS took almost 10 minutes to find its location after the battery swap — something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong. A full power removal forces a cold start, which means the receiver has no cached almanac or ephemeris data and has to rebuild its satellite model from scratch. That process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. We confirmed this on the bench — the unit locks normally once the cold start completes. Every subsequent power cycle after that will be a warm start, typically locking in under 60 seconds.

Battery drains much faster when I'm actively navigating than when the unit is just sitting on the dash — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, touchscreen backlight, and route-calculation processor simultaneously. Standby or screen-off mode cuts the display draw almost entirely. The GPS receiver alone is a significant load, and maximum screen brightness during daytime driving compounds it. Dropping display brightness one or two steps in the RoadMate display settings reduces total draw noticeably without affecting map readability.
