  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge-discharge cycle on the MD7801u platform. The BMS handed off charge termination cleanly at 100% and held voltage above 10.5V through the discharge curve without triggering a premature cutoff.

Why the MD7801u BIOS reports poor battery health after a cell swap

The MD7801u BIOS reads health data from the battery's EEPROM — a small memory chip that stores cycle count, rated capacity, and wear metrics. When you drop in a new pack, that EEPROM data doesn't match the BIOS's stored baseline from the old cell. The system flags the mismatch as degraded health even though the new cell is fresh. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a complete charge clears the learn cycle and syncs the BIOS to the new pack's EEPROM values.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated against the new cell's actual discharge curve. The IC is still using voltage-to-capacity mapping from the old, degraded cell, so it misreads the remaining charge. Under full CPU and display load, the pack hits a voltage point the BIOS treats as empty — even though the gauge shows 20–30%. Run two complete discharge-and-charge cycles without interruption to let the fuel gauge IC re-map the curve against the new chemistry. After the second cycle, the shutdowns stop.
