BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement

The K52 BIOS reads health data stored in the battery's EEPROM. When a new cell arrives, that EEPROM contains factory default values that do not match the laptop's charge history, triggering a false poor-health flag. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the cell. Running the full calibration cycle described above writes fresh data to the fuel gauge IC and clears the warning.

Laptop shuts down abruptly at 20–30% charge shown

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under combined CPU and display load at a point the gauge still maps to 20–30%. The system reads a critical voltage drop and cuts power before the displayed percentage reaches zero. Run two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles so the fuel gauge IC learns the new cell's actual voltage curve, and the shutdowns will stop.

The fuel gauge IC on K52-series boards sometimes fails to recognise a new cell if the previous battery was deeply discharged before removal. Connect the AC adapter and leave the laptop closed for 15–20 minutes before powering on — this gives the BMS time to initialise communication with the new cell. If the gauge still reads 0% after boot, run the BIOS battery learn cycle: discharge fully to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After one complete cycle the gauge resets and charging resumes normally.

System information shows the wrong Wh rating for this battery — is the cell defective?

No. The Wh figure displayed in Windows or HWiNFO is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery PCB, which ships with a rated factory value that may differ slightly from the installed cell's actual chemistry. The real-world capacity is 48.84Wh as tested. This is a data reporting difference, not a capacity or cell fault. The discrepancy typically disappears after one full calibration cycle resets the EEPROM registers to match actual measured output.

The new battery charges to 80% then stops — how do I get it to charge to 100%?

The K52 BIOS includes a battery charge-limit feature that caps charging at 80% when enabled — this is firmware behaviour, not a fault with the replacement cell. Go into the BIOS setup (press F2 at boot), navigate to the Power or Advanced tab, and look for a "Battery Health Charging" or charge-limit option. Set it to Full Capacity mode (100%) and save. If the option is absent, check Asus's MyASUS or Battery Health Charging utility in Windows and disable the charge limit there.
