Fits GE 400P, 405P, 600P, 605P and replaces OEM part numbers TOPB200, TOPB500, TOPB800.
7.2V Ni-MH pack at 2000mAh delivers stable voltage under sustained RF transmission without sag.
Slide connector mates into GE radio battery slot with positive contact on upper rail.
We bench-tested this cell in a 400P under continuous PTT cycles — BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
On first insertion into the radio dock, if no charge indicator appears, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly — GE platforms need clean contact contact before dock recognition.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE 400P / 600P Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (TOPB200)

This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for GE portable two-way radios. It fits the 400P, 405P, 600P, and 605P series, along with 19 additional compatible models. OEM part numbers TOPB200, TOPB500, and TOPB800 are all covered by this pack.

  • 400P / 405P / 600P / 605P platform fit: These models share the same 7.2V cell stack, contact layout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full line without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and transmit-load cycles on a 400P unit. The BMS handled PTT current spikes without tripping, and the charger dock accepted the pack cleanly on first insertion.
  • First insertion on the GE dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first seat, remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The GE platform requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.

Why the GE 400P cuts out mid-transmission on a new Ni-MH pack

A fresh Ni-MH cell ships at storage voltage — typically 1.0–1.1V per cell, which puts this 6-cell pack around 6.2–6.6V at rest. When you key up, transmit current spikes sharply, and voltage sags further. The radio's undervoltage protection reads that sag as a low-battery condition and cuts TX before the pack is actually depleted. Running one full charge cycle before heavy use brings resting voltage up to the correct 7.2–7.5V range and eliminates this behaviour.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a fresh pack

The GE 400P uses a simple voltage-threshold bar display — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a measured capacity. A new pack at storage voltage sits below the top threshold, so the radio displays one bar short even though the cells are not depleted. This is not a fault with the pack. Charge it fully first — dock light goes solid green — then check the indicator again. A fully charged pack should read the top bar band at rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GE 400P drops out of transmit mid-way through a conversation — is that the battery or the radio?

That's almost always voltage sag under transmit load, not a radio fault. Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage, and the first few PTT presses pull enough current to dip below the radio's undervoltage cutoff. Run a full charge cycle first. If dropout still happens after a full charge, check resting voltage across the contacts — it should sit at 7.2V or above before you key up.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED the moment I seat the new battery — what does that mean?

The GE dock reads a fault LED when the contact resistance is too high for the BMS handshake to complete. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it with firm, even pressure. If the LED still blinks after two clean insertions, leave the pack seated for 60 seconds — some docks require a trickle pre-charge to bring a storage-voltage Ni-MH pack up to the acceptance threshold before the green charge cycle begins.

The radio runs fine for a week, then starts losing the top bar on the indicator faster than the original battery did — what's happening?

Ni-MH packs degrade faster when they're repeatedly topped off from a high state of charge — partial cycles every shift without a full discharge. That pattern raises cell impedance, and the voltage-threshold bar display registers the sag as a lower state of charge sooner. Run the pack down until the radio shows a low-battery warning, then charge fully — one full cycle per week resets that impedance creep and keeps the threshold bars accurate.
