Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ma-Com-Ericsson 600P / Cougar Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (344A456P1)
This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Ma-Com-Ericsson 600P and Cougar 405P/625P series portable two-way radios. It replaces OEM packs including PB200, PB300, TOPB100, TOPB200, TOPB300, and several BKB191 variants. Capacity data comes from the product specification — 14.4Wh total energy.
- 600P and Cougar platform fit: These radios share a common 7.2V battery bay, connector pin-out, and BMS handshake protocol across the 405P, 625P, and GP405STX lines. One pack format covers the full range because the voltage rail and contact layout did not change across those models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a 600P chassis. The BMS accepted charge without fault, and PTT transmit current spikes did not trigger overcurrent cutoff at any point during the test sequence.
- First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault or blinking LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Ma-Com-Ericsson dock requires a clean contact surface to complete its BMS handshake before it will begin charging.
Why the 600P cuts out mid-transmission on a new Ni-MH pack
Ni-MH cells ship at storage charge — typically 40–60% of rated capacity. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes hard. If the cell voltage drops below the radio's undervoltage threshold during that spike, the BMS cuts power to protect the pack. This is not a faulty battery. Run two or three full charge cycles first, and the cells will reach operating capacity where the voltage holds steady through the transmit surge.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after charging
The 600P uses voltage-threshold bar indicators — each bar maps to a voltage band, not a fuel gauge calculation. A new Ni-MH pack sometimes rests at a lower open-circuit voltage after the first charge because the cells have not yet been conditioned. After a second full charge cycle, resting voltage typically rises to 8.4–8.6V and the display reflects a full charge correctly. If the indicator still reads low after three cycles, check that the dock contacts are clean and making firm contact with the pack's gold strip.

Frequently Asked Questions
My 600P drops to reduced TX power about halfway through a shift — is this the battery?
Yes, this is voltage sag under sustained RF output. Ni-MH cells lose voltage faster than rated under continuous high-current draw, and the radio's power management steps down TX output when the pack voltage falls below threshold. This is more pronounced in the first few cycles before the cells are conditioned. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and the sag point will shift closer to actual depletion.
The charger dock blinks a fault LED every time I insert this pack — it never moves to charging mode.
A persistent fault LED almost always means the pack voltage is below the dock's acceptance threshold. Ni-MH packs at deep storage discharge can sit below 6V, which most Ma-Com-Ericsson docks will not accept without a recovery cycle. Try a compatible universal charger set to Ni-MH recovery mode to bring the pack up to around 7.0V, then return it to the dock — it should accept the charge normally from that point.
After several months sitting unused, my 600P battery won't recover past two bars even after a full charge — what happened?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day, so a pack stored for several months can drop deep enough that individual cells reverse-polarise. Once a cell reverses, capacity is permanently reduced and the pack will plateau at a lower voltage than the bar thresholds expect. If the pack reaches 8.2V or higher after a full charge but still shows two bars, the cells are mismatched from uneven self-discharge — the pack needs replacement. For long-term storage, keep the pack at around 50% charge and recharge it every 60 days.
