Fits GE 60401005 and 60410C5 emergency lighting units as direct replacement.
6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers 12Wh to sustain exit sign illumination during mains failure.
Connector orientation is fixed; battery seats flush in the cylindrical holder with no locking tab.
We bench tested this cell on a 60401005 charger — BMS accepted full charge within four hours, no fault codes.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for rated duration; this confirms the cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register new capacity before your next compliance audit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE 60401005 / 60410C5 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement cell for the GE 60401005 and 60410C5 emergency lighting units. It slots into the fitting and powers the lamp during mains failure, keeping the exit route illuminated until power is restored. Voltage and capacity match the original GE specification exactly.

  • GE 60401005 and 60410C5 compatibility: Both units run the same 6V charge rail and use an identical cell footprint — 52.38 x 43.46 x 27.20mm — so one cell covers both fittings without modification to the connector or housing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through a full mains-off simulation. The charge controller accepted the cell without fault, the BMS held steady voltage under lamp load, and the fitting returned to float charge once mains was restored.
  • First-cycle test after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity and confirms the lamp holds load before your next scheduled compliance test.

Charge indicator staying red after fitting the new cell

A Ni-MH cell discharged during storage can arrive with a terminal voltage below the fitting's float acceptance window. The charge controller reads this as a fault rather than a normal charging state and holds the red LED. Leave the fitting connected to mains for a full 24-hour charge cycle without interruption. Once the cell voltage climbs into the acceptance window, the controller registers it correctly and the indicator shifts to green.

Emergency light dims or cuts out partway through a duration test

A new cell that has not yet completed one full charge cycle from a low storage voltage will show reduced capacity under sustained lamp load — the voltage sags before the rated duration is reached. This is not a faulty cell; it is an unconditioned one. Allow 24 hours on charge before running the test. After one complete charge and discharge cycle, the cell reaches its rated 2000mAh and sustains full lamp brightness for the duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GE emergency light passed the compliance test fine before, but after fitting the new battery it failed the duration test — why?

A fresh Ni-MH cell needs one full charge cycle before it delivers its rated 2000mAh capacity. If the duration test was run before that cycle completed, the cell ran out of charge early and the fitting failed. Charge the unit on mains for a full 24 hours, then rerun the test — the cell will hold load for the full rated period.

The fitting's fault LED is still on after I confirmed the new cell is seated and connected correctly — what's happening?

Some GE emergency lighting fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is installed. The controller needs a manual reset: disconnect mains power, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect. If the LED still does not clear after a 24-hour charge cycle, check that the cell connector is fully seated and the terminal voltage has reached at least 6.0V.

I found the old battery had swollen inside the fitting — what caused that and will it happen again?

Swelling in Ni-MH cells is caused by overcharge damage, typically from years of continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature inside a sealed fitting. Check that the fitting's charge circuit is functioning correctly — a faulty charge controller that never transitions to float will overcharge any replacement cell over time. Inspect the fitting for heat buildup and ensure the charge current drops to float level after the cell reaches full charge.
