Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE Krautkramer USN 52R / USM 35 — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 10.8V, 6600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the GE Krautkramer USN 52R and USM 35 ultrasonic flaw detectors. Both units are portable NDT instruments used for weld inspection, casting analysis, and structural integrity testing in the field. Voltage and capacity match OEM specifications exactly — no modification required for installation.
- USN 52R and USM 35 shared platform: Both models run the same 10.8V battery architecture and use the same BMS handshake protocol. A single replacement cell covers both units — the charge controller on each device applies the same cutoff and balancing logic to the new pack.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through full charge cycles on the USM 35 platform and confirmed the BMS completed cell recognition without throwing a fault. Charge acceptance, voltage curve, and cutoff behaviour all matched expected OEM parameters.
- Post-swap self-test requirement: After installation, allow the USN 52R or USM 35 to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a verification sequence at startup — cutting power during this phase logs a false battery fault that persists until the next complete reboot cycle.
Why the USN 52R alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The USN 52R's BMS compares the new cell's charge signature against a stored OEM reference profile. On the first cycle, a fresh cell's internal resistance reads slightly higher than a conditioned OEM pack, which causes the alarm threshold to trip prematurely. This is not a fault with the battery — it is the BMS applying a conservative cutoff to an unrecognised chemistry signature. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the BMS recalibrates its threshold to match the new cell's actual capacity curve.
USM 35 not powering on after the battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack voltage drops below approximately 9.0V, the USM 35's BMS enters deep-discharge lockout to protect the cells from damage. The device will not respond to the power button in this state — it is not a device fault. Connect the battery to the charger and leave it for a minimum of 30 minutes before attempting to power on; the charge IC needs to trickle-charge the pack back above the BMS recovery threshold before normal operation resumes. Once voltage climbs above 10.0V, the BMS exits lockout and the device boots normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
The USN 52R shows a low battery warning the moment it finishes booting — battery was on the charger all night. What's happening?
The USN 52R's BMS runs a cell-recognition check at startup and compares the new pack's resistance signature against an OEM reference. A fresh cell reads higher internal resistance than a conditioned original, so the alarm threshold trips on the first boot even though the pack is fully charged. This clears after one complete charge-discharge cycle — the BMS updates its threshold once it has a full capacity curve to work with. Run the device through one full discharge and recharge before field use.
The USM 35 shuts off unexpectedly during a scan session, but the battery indicator showed it was at 50% or more. Why does this keep happening in the first week of use?
NDT devices like the USM 35 draw sharp, high-current pulses during active pulsing and signal acquisition. In the first ten cycles, a new Li-ion cell has not yet reached full electrochemical conditioning, so voltage sags harder under those load spikes than it will after break-in. The BMS interprets the voltage dip as a low-cell event and cuts power to protect the pack. This behaviour reduces noticeably after five to ten full cycles — track the shutoffs and expect them to stop occurring once the cell is properly conditioned.
The charge indicator on the USN 52R never reaches 100% — it stalls at 95% and stays there. Is the battery faulty?
The charge IC on the USN 52R applies a conservative top-off limit when it detects a new or unrecognised cell pack. It holds at a reduced charge ceiling — typically 95–97% — until the BMS has completed at least one full learn cycle. This is intentional protective behaviour, not a cell defect. After one complete charge-discharge cycle, the charge IC raises its ceiling and the indicator reaches 100% on the next charge.
