Clean the filter first — if suction recovers, the pack is fine. If sag continues on a clean filter, the cells have lost capacity and the pack needs replacing.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. Under sustained restricted suction — a blocked nozzle or clogged filter — the motor draws a spike above the BMS current threshold and the pack shuts off briefly to protect the cells. Once current drops, the BMS resets and power returns. Clear the blockage or clean the filter before concluding the pack is faulty. If the cutout continues on a clear airpath, check that pack voltage reads at least 14.4V after a full charge cycle.

A partially blocked filter forces the motor to pull more current than the pack expects, which causes voltage to sag even when the indicator shows charge remaining. Clean the filter and nozzle first — this resolves the symptom in most cases. If suction is still weak on a clean airpath, the cells have degraded and can no longer hold voltage under load. Fit a new pack and run a full charge before testing.

The vacuum cuts out for a few seconds during use, then comes back on by itself — is the battery failing?

That behaviour is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dying pack. It happens when the motor hits a current spike — usually from a blocked nozzle or filter pushing the draw above the BMS threshold. I've had the replacement battery for a few months and the CL 590 already feels like it's lost capacity — is that normal this quickly?

Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums fade faster than expected when left on the charging dock continuously. Constant trickle charge after a full state of charge degrades cell capacity significantly faster than charge-then-remove cycles. If the vacuum has been sitting docked between every use, that is the cause. From now on, charge fully and disconnect from the dock — do not leave it docked overnight or between sessions.
