Goddess CL290 / CL390 Series — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Goddess CL290, CL390W, CL390B, and CL390S handheld vacuum cleaners, plus three additional CL-series models. It replaces the original battery pack when capacity has degraded from repeated charge cycles. Voltage and cell chemistry match the OEM specification exactly.

• CL290 and CL390 series compatibility: These models share the same 14.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake requirements across the range. The pack slots into any of these units without modification or firmware changes.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a CL-series unit and confirmed the BMS communicates correctly with the charger — no false low-battery cutoff, no charge rejection.
• Dock charging behaviour: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Goddess CL-series vacuums on continuous dock charge accumulate trickle-charge damage to Ni-MH cells faster than devices charged only when depleted. Charge to full and remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The CL290 motor draws significantly more current when the filter is partially blocked, pulling the battery voltage down under load even when the cell charge level is technically still adequate. The BMS reads this voltage sag as a low-state condition and throttles power to the motor before the indicator reflects it. This creates the impression of a weak battery when the real cause is restricted airflow forcing the motor to work harder. Clean or replace the filter first — if suction recovers and holds, the battery is not the issue.

Motor cutting out mid-use then recovering after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When sustained suction blockage forces the motor to draw above the pack's rated current threshold, the BMS disconnects the output to protect the cells. After a few seconds the BMS resets and power returns. The fix is to clear the blockage — check the filter, the nozzle, and the dustbin seal. If the motor still trips on a clean machine, check that pack voltage under load doesn't drop below 12V, which would indicate cell degradation rather than a blockage issue.
