Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GPS Tracker GT102 / TK102 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V 900mAh (3.33Wh) Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the GPS Tracker GT102 and TK102 compact tracking devices. Both models use the same battery footprint — 46.20 x 34.14 x 5.68mm — and the same 3.7V single-cell architecture. Fit the replacement when the original cell can no longer hold charge through a full tracking session.

  • GT102 and TK102 compatibility: Both trackers run off an identical single Li-ion cell at 3.7V nominal with the same physical connector and board layout. The BMS on each unit handles charge cutoff at 4.2V and discharge protection at approximately 3.0V — this cell works within both those limits.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the GT102 platform. The onboard BMS accepted charge current without tripping, and cutoff engaged cleanly at both the high and low voltage thresholds with no thermal event.
  • First-cycle recalibration on the GT102: After fitting this cell, run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle with the device active before relying on the battery indicator. The GT102's fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve during that first full cycle.

Why the GT102 shows incorrect battery percentage after a cell swap

The GT102 uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks charge by counting coulombs against a stored discharge curve from the original cell. When you fit a new cell, that stored curve no longer matches the new cell's actual voltage-to-capacity profile. The result is a percentage reading that drifts — sometimes reading full when the cell is partially depleted. One complete discharge and charge cycle forces the IC to relearn the curve and corrects the displayed percentage.

GT102 powering off with percentage still showing above zero

This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under load before the displayed percentage reaches 0%. On a degraded or deeply discharged cell, the resting voltage may read acceptable, but under the GPS radio and cellular transmission load, it sags past 3.0V and the BMS shuts the device down. A new cell restores the capacity buffer between resting voltage and loaded voltage. After fitting this replacement, charge fully to 4.2V before first active use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GT102 keeps shutting off even though the battery indicator still shows charge remaining — why?

The GPS radio and transmission load pulls enough current to drag cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold even when the resting voltage looked fine. This is a voltage-sag failure on a degraded cell, not a gauge error. The percentage display lags behind the real cell state because the fuel gauge IC is working from an old discharge curve. Fit the replacement cell and charge it fully to 4.2V before powering the tracker on for the first time.

After fitting the new battery, the GT102 battery percentage jumps around erratically — is the cell faulty?

The fuel gauge IC on the GT102 is still calibrated to the discharge curve of the old cell. When the new cell's actual voltage doesn't match the stored curve, the IC misreads state-of-charge and the percentage jumps. Run one complete active discharge — leave the tracker operating until the low-battery cutoff triggers — then charge fully without interruption. That single cycle gives the coulomb counter enough data to recalibrate against the new cell.

The GT102 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in storage for a while — what's happening?

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the cell voltage dropped below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent charging a deeply depleted cell at full current. Connect the GT102 to a charger and leave it undisturbed for at least 30 minutes — the charge IC applies a low trickle current first to bring the cell above the recovery threshold before switching to normal charge current. If the device shows no sign of life after 30 minutes, check that the charger output reads 5V with a multimeter before assuming a fault with the cell.
