This is a 40V Li-ion replacement battery for the GreenWorks G-MAX 40V cordless tool platform. It carries a 2000mAh (80Wh) capacity and fits G-MAX 40V lawn mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, and leaf blowers. OEM part numbers covered include 29472, 24252, 29462, 29302, 20202, 22262, 25312, 29252, 29717, and 29727.

  • G-MAX 40V platform compatibility: All tools in the G-MAX 40V lineup share the same battery rail voltage, connector housing, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single pack slides into a mower, chainsaw, or blower without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through a G-MAX 40V mower and chainsaw under load. The BMS held stable across motor-start inrush spikes and correctly throttled discharge at the low-cell cutoff threshold.
  • Motor inrush conditioning on first use: Run the tool at half load for the first two cycles before full-throttle applications. This allows the BMS to profile the motor's inrush current draw before it sets its overcurrent protection thresholds — reducing nuisance trips on trigger pull.

BMS cutoff on G-MAX motor-start inrush surge

Every G-MAX 40V motor draws a short, sharp current spike the moment the trigger is pulled — especially chainsaws and mowers under blade load. If the BMS has not profiled that inrush pattern, it can read the spike as an overcurrent fault and cut the pack instantly. A pack coming out of storage is more vulnerable because cell impedance rises during inactivity, which amplifies the apparent inrush load. Running two light-load cycles recalibrates the BMS protection thresholds before you push the tool hard.

Charger blinking red and refusing to accept the pack after storage

GreenWorks 40V chargers have a minimum acceptance voltage — if a stored pack drops below roughly 25V, the charger's input circuit rejects it before a charge cycle can begin. This is a safety gate, not a dead battery. Place the pack in the charger and leave it connected for 10–15 minutes; most GreenWorks chargers include a recovery mode that trickle-feeds current until the cells reach acceptance voltage. If the light shifts from red to solid or flashing green, the recovery worked — let it complete a full charge before using the pack.

My GreenWorks 40V chainsaw cuts out the instant I pull the trigger under load — is that the battery or the tool?

That's almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a tool fault. The chainsaw motor pulls a sharp inrush spike on trigger pull, and a new or recently stored pack has higher cell impedance — which makes the spike look larger to the BMS than it actually is. Run the pack through two light-load cycles on a trimmer or blower first to let the BMS recalibrate its overcurrent threshold. After that, the chainsaw should hold under normal cutting load without tripping.

The mower bogs down and loses power partway through a thick patch of grass — what's happening?

That's voltage sag — under sustained heavy motor load, cell voltage drops faster than the BMS's nominal discharge curve expects. Check the battery rail contacts on both the pack and the mower deck for corrosion or debris; high contact resistance amplifies sag significantly. If the contacts are clean, the pack is likely experiencing normal discharge behaviour under peak draw — let it cool for 10 minutes between heavy sections. A rested pack should return to full rail voltage above 36V when measured at the terminals.

The battery works fine in summer but the mower loses noticeable power on cold mornings — why?

Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the cells can deliver without voltage drooping below the BMS cutoff. The pack isn't damaged — it's operating at reduced output because cold chemistry limits ion transfer rate across the cells. Bring the battery indoors for 30 minutes before use on cold mornings; a pack at room temperature will deliver full rated current from the first trigger pull. Don't charge the pack when it's still cold — charge it after it has warmed to at least 10°C.
