Fits Powerworks 40V-System tools and replaces OEM battery part P40GC, PD40CS40.
40V 2000mAh lithium-ion delivers consistent power across drills, saws, and lawn equipment on this platform.
Connector slides straight into Powerworks 40V-System slot with a positive-lock tab; seats flush every time.
We bench-tested this cell on a P40GC drill — BMS held steady through multiple trigger-pull motor surges without nuisance cutoff.
On first use with this 40V pack, run the drill or saw at half load for two cycles before full-torque operation — lets the BMS profile motor inrush current before locking overcurrent thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Powerworks 40V-System (P40GC / PD40CS40) — 40V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 40V 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Powerworks 40V-System platform. It fits the P40GC and PD40CS40 models, along with other tools in the 40V-System lineup that share the same slide-in connector and voltage rail. Capacity is 2000mAh (80Wh) — match that against your original before ordering.

  • 40V-System platform fit: The P40GC, PD40CS40, and compatible 40V-System tools share a standardised 40V rail and connector interface. The BMS in each tool handshakes with the pack over the same communication line, so one battery format serves the full platform without adapter hardware.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated motor-start inrush cycles on a 40V-System drill. The BMS held the overcurrent threshold without nuisance tripping and balanced cells correctly across charge and discharge cycles.
  • Break-in procedure for 40V-System tools: On first use, run the tool at half load for two cycles before applying maximum torque. This lets the BMS profile the motor inrush current draw and set overcurrent protection thresholds accurately before you push it hard.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush surge in 40V-System tools

When a brushless motor starts under load, it pulls a current spike — sometimes three to five times the running draw — in the first milliseconds of trigger pull. If the BMS has not profiled that motor's inrush signature, it can read the spike as a fault and cut output. On a fresh pack, this shows up as a single hard stutter on trigger pull, then normal operation once the BMS resets. Running two half-load cycles first allows the protection circuitry to calibrate its overcurrent window to the actual motor load.

Charger not recognising the pack after storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below roughly 2.5V per cell, most chargers will not begin a charge cycle — the acceptance voltage threshold is a safety gate, not a fault. The charger may blink red, show no response, or cycle between red and green without progressing. To recover, some chargers have a conditioning or recovery mode; select it, connect the pack, and allow a low-current trickle for 10–15 minutes until the cell voltage rises above the acceptance threshold and normal charging begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Powerworks 40V drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a tough screw — battery looks fully charged, what's happening?

That hard cutout on trigger pull is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead pack. The motor-start inrush current spikes sharply the moment the drill engages a loaded fastener, and if the BMS hasn't profiled that draw yet, it reads the spike as a fault and shuts output. Run two half-load cycles first — free-spinning or light drilling — so the BMS can set its overcurrent threshold to the motor's actual inrush signature. After that, the pack should hold through full-torque applications without tripping.

The Powerworks 40V circular saw ran fine for the first few cuts, then started bogging badly under load — could this be the battery?

That bogging symptom is voltage sag — the cell voltage drops under sustained high-draw load, and the tool loses torque as a result. It's more pronounced when rail contact resistance is elevated, so clean both the battery terminals and the tool's contact points with a dry cloth before ruling out the pack itself. If the sag persists after cleaning the contacts, the cells may have aged past their useful discharge curve for high-draw applications. Check the resting voltage with a multimeter after a full charge — a healthy 40V Li-ion pack should read approximately 42V at full charge.

The battery feels noticeably weaker in cold weather — is something wrong with it?

Nothing is wrong — Li-ion internal resistance rises significantly below 5°C, which reduces the current the cells can deliver and makes the tool feel underpowered. Warm the pack to room temperature before use; even 15 minutes indoors makes a measurable difference in output. Avoid leaving the battery in an unheated garage or car overnight before a cold-morning job. Once the cells return to above 10°C, output returns to normal without any reset or intervention needed.
