This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the HME COM 2000 wireless headset. It slots directly into the COM 2000 and restores power to the headset's audio and DECT radio circuits. Use the OEM part number BAT2000 to confirm this is the correct cell for your unit.

  • COM 2000 headset fit: The COM 2000 runs a 4.8V Ni-MH pack because the DECT radio and audio amp share a single voltage rail at that level. Swapping to a different voltage or chemistry would push the radio module outside its operating window.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the COM 2000 base station and confirmed the BMS handshake completed without a charging error. The cell reached 4.8V nominal and the base station cleared to a full-charge indicator.
  • First-cycle base station protocol: Seat the new pack in the base station and let it complete a full charge cycle before taking a call. DECT headsets log the new cell during that first charge — until it completes, the talk-time estimate shown on the base will be inaccurate.

Why the COM 2000 cuts out mid-call on a new battery

The COM 2000 draws current simultaneously from the audio amplifier and the DECT radio transmitter. Under that combined load, a freshly installed Ni-MH cell that hasn't completed its first full charge cycle can sag below the radio module's minimum operating voltage. The headset interprets this as a low-battery cutoff and drops the call. Run one full charge-discharge cycle through the base station and the cell's internal resistance settles, reducing voltage sag under peak draw.

Base station shows a charging error after fitting the new pack

The COM 2000 base station checks for a minimum voltage before it begins the charge handshake. If the replacement pack ships at storage voltage — typically below 4.0V — the base can flag a fault instead of entering charge mode. Remove the pack, let it sit at room temperature for ten minutes, then reseat it firmly in the cradle. If the error clears and the charge indicator activates, the handshake completed; leave it undisturbed through the full first cycle.

This is voltage sag under the combined DECT radio and audio amp draw, not a capacity problem. A Ni-MH cell that hasn't been fully conditioned drops voltage sharply when both circuits pull current at the same time. Run two complete charge-discharge cycles through the base station before relying on the headset for calls. After conditioning, the cell holds above the radio module's minimum operating voltage under peak load.

The base station won't recognise the new battery and keeps flashing an error — how do I fix it?

The base station checks for a threshold voltage before it starts the charge handshake — if the pack arrived at low storage voltage, the base rejects it instead of charging. Remove the pack, wait ten minutes, then reseat it firmly so the contacts are fully engaged. If the error light clears and charging begins, leave the headset in the cradle undisturbed for the entire first cycle to let the BMS log the new cell correctly.

Talk time on the COM 2000 is much shorter than it should be for the first few uses — is the battery faulty?

It isn't faulty — Ni-MH cells deliver below-rated capacity for the first three to five cycles while the chemistry stabilises. Each full charge-discharge cycle through the base station increases the usable capacity incrementally. Don't judge the pack until after at least three complete cycles. By cycle five, the cell should be delivering close to its rated 2000mAh under normal COM 2000 operating conditions.
