Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nolan B5 / B901L / B901R / N4 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PL053448P)

This is a 3.7V 800mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original battery in the Nolan B5, B901L, B901R, and N4 wireless headsets. It fits the slim 50.00 × 34.20 × 5.20mm cavity directly. When the factory cell no longer holds a charge, this swap restores full headset function without replacing the unit.

  • B5, B901L, B901R, and N4 compatibility: These models share the same cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single 3.7V cell with the correct dimensions and protection circuit covers the entire group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the B5 platform. The onboard BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff.
  • Base station first-cycle logging: On first use, seat the headset in the base station and let it complete a full charge cycle before making a call. DECT headsets log the new cell during that first docked cycle — skipping it causes the talk-time indicator to read inaccurately for the first several uses.

Base station showing a charging error after fitting the new cell

The base station communicates with the headset's BMS before it begins charging. If the new cell arrives at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V — the base may flag a handshake mismatch or display a charge fault. This is not a faulty battery. Dock the headset, leave it seated for at least 15 minutes without interruption, and the base station will re-initialise the charge cycle. If the error clears, the BMS has accepted the pack and charging proceeds normally.

Headset cutting out mid-call even with a charged battery

The Nolan B5 runs both the audio codec and the DECT radio from the same 3.7V cell simultaneously. Under that combined draw, a cell weakened by age or a shallow charge can sag below the BMS cutoff threshold mid-transmission. The headset drops the call and may restart. Check that the cell reached a full charge before the call — the base station indicator light should show solid green, not pulsing. If cut-outs continue after a verified full charge, the cell voltage at load is dropping below 3.2V; confirm with a multimeter on the contacts.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nolan B5 base station shows full charge but the headset dies after just a few minutes of use — what's wrong?

A cell shipped at storage voltage (around 3.6V) can report full charge to the base station before it has actually completed a proper first cycle. The base reads voltage, not true capacity, so the indicator turns solid before the cell is conditioned. Dock the headset and let it charge uninterrupted for a full cycle, then discharge it through normal use and charge again. Talk time improves noticeably over the first three to five cycles as the cell reaches rated 800mAh capacity.

The headset gets noticeably warm during long calls after fitting the new battery — is that normal?

Sustained combined draw from the audio codec and DECT radio in a small housing does generate heat. Some warmth is expected. If the headset becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, the cell's protection circuit is working harder than it should — usually because the base station contacts are dirty and the cell is not reaching a full charge before use. Clean the dock contacts with a dry cloth, confirm the charge indicator reaches solid green, and the temperature should drop to normal operating range.

Talk time is noticeably shorter than the rated figure for the first few days — is the battery faulty?

No. Li-ion cells need conditioning cycles to reach rated capacity from factory. On the first one to three cycles, the cell delivers less than its full 800mAh because the lithium ions have not yet distributed evenly across the electrode material. Run the headset through complete charge-and-discharge cycles — dock until solid green, then use until the low-battery warning sounds — and capacity increases each cycle. By cycle five, talk time should be at or close to the rated figure.
