Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honeywell BW RigRat — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (500-0165-000)
This 3.7V 10500mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Honeywell BW RigRat portable multi-gas detector. It fits the RigRat used in confined-space and industrial survey environments where continuous gas monitoring is critical. Capacity is sourced from product data at 10500mAh (38.85Wh) — not estimated from web specs.
- BW RigRat platform fit: The RigRat runs its sensor array, display, and wireless telemetry from a single 3.7V cell. This pack matches the OEM voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake required for the instrument to recognise the battery and report state correctly.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through sensor warm-up sequences and monitored the BMS response at startup. The BMS held steady through the initial sensor current draw without tripping, and charge termination landed within expected bounds at full capacity.
- Pre-deployment calibration cycle: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the RigRat instrument menu before field deployment. The device maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during the first monitoring session even when the pack is fully charged.
BMS lockout after the RigRat sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. If the RigRat sat unused long enough, the cell voltage can drop below the BMS protection threshold — typically around 2.5V — and the BMS latches into lockout to prevent cell damage. At that point, the instrument will not power on and the charger may show no activity. Connect the unit to the OEM charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes without interruption; most BMS circuits include a low-voltage recovery path that trickle-charges the cell back above the re-enable threshold before switching to normal charge current. If the charger LED shows activity after 10–15 minutes, the BMS has exited lockout.
Sensor readings resetting or dropping out mid-logging session
This is not the same fault as a full shutdown — the instrument stays on but logged data resets or sensor values freeze then restart. The cause is a brief voltage dropout under sustained sensor load: when all gas sensors are actively sampling, current draw peaks and a weakened or partially discharged cell sags below the minimum operating voltage for the sensor electronics. The instrument recovers but the logging buffer clears. Check the battery percentage before starting a long logging session and replace the pack if it reads below 40% — sustained multi-sensor draws will sag a partially depleted cell faster than the display indicator updates.

Frequently Asked Questions
The RigRat powers on fine but shuts itself off the moment I plug it into the PC for data transfer — is the battery at fault?
USB data transfer adds a simultaneous draw on top of whatever the sensors are pulling, and if the cell voltage is already slightly low, that combined load trips the BMS undervoltage cutoff. The instrument cuts power to protect the cell rather than corrupt the transfer. Charge the pack fully before connecting via USB, and check that the cell sits at or above 3.6V resting voltage before you start a transfer session.
My RigRat won't recognise the new battery after I fitted it — the instrument behaves as if nothing is installed.
The BMS in a new or stored pack can sit in sleep mode if the cell voltage dropped during shipping or shelf storage. The instrument handshake requires the BMS to be active before it reports pack presence. Connect the RigRat to the OEM charger for 15–20 minutes without powering the device on — this wakes the BMS and allows the charge circuit to bring the cell above the recognition threshold. After that, power on normally and run the calibration cycle through the instrument menu.
The RigRat shows a low-battery warning almost immediately after a full charge — the percentage drops fast in the first few minutes of use.
This happens when the instrument's battery state indicator is still calibrated to the old, worn-out cell it replaced. The display threshold map doesn't match the new cell's discharge curve, so it reads low even when the pack has full capacity. Run a complete calibration cycle through the RigRat instrument menu immediately after the first full charge — the device re-maps battery state against the new cell's actual voltage curve during that process, and the percentage readout stabilises after one or two full discharge-recharge cycles.
