Fits Honor Play 40 Plus and Play 40 Plus 5G Premium; replaces OEM part HB5066A1EGW battery.
3.89V, 5900mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers full system voltage to modem, display, and processor stack.
Connector type is JST with polarized locking tab; slides into factory battery slot horizontally without force.
We cycled the cell on a Play 40 Plus bench unit; BMS accepted charge at 5V/2A and discharged cleanly to cutoff.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honor Play 40 Plus — 3.89V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (HB5066A1EGW)

This is a 3.89V, 5900mAh (22.95Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Honor Play 40 Plus, Play 40 Plus 5G Premium, and Changwan 40 Plus (model RKY-AN00). It replaces OEM part HB5066A1EGW when the original cell has degraded and can no longer hold charge under normal daily use. Direct cell swap — same dimensions at 99.40 × 65.10 × 4.90mm.

  • Play 40 Plus and RKY-AN00 compatibility: These variants share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. HB5066A1EGW is the single OEM part number across all listed models, so one cell fits the full production run.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the RKY-AN00 platform. The BMS accepted charge current without fault flags, and the protection circuit triggered correctly at low-voltage cutoff during deep discharge testing.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and complete one full discharge-charge cycle at standard current. This lets the fuel gauge IC learn the new cell's discharge curve before proprietary fast charge pushes higher current into an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

A fresh cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the degraded cell the fuel gauge IC was calibrated against. At 20–30% reported charge, the IC thinks voltage is stable — but under modem or display load, the new cell briefly sags below the cutoff threshold the system expects. The phone interprets this as a dead cell and shuts down. One full discharge-charge cycle at standard current resets the coulomb counter and maps the new curve correctly. After that cycle, the shutdowns stop.

USB-PD fast charge not triggering after battery replacement

After a cell swap, the charge IC on the Play 40 Plus may default to trickle or standard charge on the first cycle — even with a fast-charge cable and adapter. This happens because the BMS reports an unrecognised state of charge history, causing the charge IC to stay in a conservative profile until it completes one full cycle. Charge the phone to 100% and let it discharge to below 15% once without interrupting the session. Fast charge negotiation resumes on the next plug-in.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Honor Play 40 Plus shuts off at around 25% after I swapped the battery — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC is still using the discharge curve from the old degraded cell, so it misreads the voltage sag of the new cell under screen or modem load and triggers shutdown early. Complete one uninterrupted discharge down to below 10%, then charge to 100% at standard (non-fast) charge speed. That single cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter to the new cell and the early shutdowns stop.

The battery percentage jumps erratically — it shows 60%, then skips to 45% without warning. What causes that?

Erratic percentage jumps after a cell swap mean the fuel gauge IC has not yet mapped the new cell's open-circuit voltage curve to a state-of-charge reading. It is interpolating against stale data from the old cell. Run one full slow discharge from 100% to shutdown, then charge fully without interruption. The IC uses that cycle to anchor its reference points, and the percentage readout stabilises from the next charge onward.

The phone won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in storage for a few months before installation — how do I recover it?

A cell stored at low charge drops below 2.5V per cell, which triggers BMS lockout to prevent damage from over-discharge. The BMS will not pass current to the phone until the cell is pre-charged above the recovery threshold. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it untouched for 20–30 minutes — the charge IC trickle-charges the cell back above 3.0V, at which point the BMS releases the lockout and the phone powers on normally. If nothing happens after 30 minutes, try a different USB cable rated for data, not charge-only.
