Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HumanWare New Stream — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BAPP-0006)
This 3.8V, 2500mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the OEM BAPP-0006 pack in the HumanWare New Stream portable notetaker. The New Stream is an assistive technology device used daily by blind and visually impaired users to access information, manage tasks, and navigate digital content. Capacity is 9.5Wh — identical to the original specification.
- New Stream platform fit: The New Stream uses a single-cell Li-Polymer pack with a proprietary connector and BMS handshake tied to the device's power management controller. This replacement matches the original cell configuration, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol so the device recognises the pack at first boot.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the New Stream's charge and wake sequences. The BMS negotiated correctly with the device's power controller, held stable voltage under sustained audio and screen-refresh load, and triggered the correct low-voltage cutoff without locking the device into an error state.
- First-use initialisation on the New Stream: After fitting this pack, charge to 100% before switching the device on. The New Stream calibrates its battery percentage indicator against the cell's full-charge voltage on the first power-up cycle — starting from a partial charge causes the indicator to report inaccurate levels for several subsequent cycles.
BMS lockout after the New Stream sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-Polymer cells self-discharge slowly in storage. If a New Stream sits unused long enough, the pack drops below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell — and the protection circuit opens to prevent damage. At that point, the device will not power on and may not respond to a standard charger. Connecting the OEM charger for 15–30 minutes at a low-current top-up is usually enough to bring the cell voltage above the BMS re-enable threshold. Once the BMS closes the circuit, normal charging resumes and the pack recovers to full capacity.
New Stream powers on but shuts off during USB data transfer to a PC
USB data transfer draws current from both the processor and the USB controller simultaneously — a combined load the device's power rail doesn't sustain well on a degraded or partially charged cell. The BMS sees a voltage sag below its cutoff threshold and disconnects the pack to protect the cell. This is not a fault in the replacement pack — it is the BMS responding to genuine undervoltage under peak draw. Charge the New Stream to at least 80% before initiating a USB transfer session, and confirm charge voltage is at or above 4.1V before connecting to a PC.

Frequently Asked Questions
My New Stream won't turn on after sitting in its case for a few months — is the battery dead?
Most likely the pack self-discharged below the BMS recovery threshold, which causes the protection circuit to open and block all output. Connect the OEM charger and leave it for at least 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — this allows a trickle top-up to bring cell voltage above the point where the BMS will re-enable. Once the device shows a charging indicator, let it reach 100% before powering on.
The battery percentage on my New Stream jumps around after fitting the new pack — it showed 80% then dropped to 40% within minutes.
The New Stream's battery indicator calibrates its percentage thresholds against the cell's full-charge voltage on the first cycle. If the device was first powered on with the pack partially charged, the indicator maps incorrect reference points and reads erratically. Drain the pack until the device shuts off on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this forces a full recalibration cycle and stabilises the percentage display.
My New Stream cuts out mid-session while I'm listening to a document, even though the battery showed plenty of charge.
Sustained audio playback — especially at higher volume through the New Stream's speaker — creates a continuous draw that can expose voltage sag in a cell that's beginning to age or wasn't fully charged. The BMS interprets the sag as an undervoltage condition and disconnects the pack to protect it. This is distinct from a dead battery — the device may restart immediately after shutdown. Charge fully to 4.2V before long listening sessions, and if the cutoffs repeat on a new pack, check that the charging port is delivering a clean connection with no debris causing intermittent charge interruption.
