Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Icom IC-F3001 / IC-3101 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-265)

This 7.4V Li-ion battery carries 2200mAh (16.28Wh) and replaces the Icom BP-265 / BP-265LI pack. It fits the IC-3101, IC-4101, IC-F3001, IC-F3002, and 16 additional Icom models on the same platform. Same connector housing, same BMS handshake protocol as the original pack.

  • IC-F3001 / IC-3101 platform fit: These models share a common 7.4V rail, identical battery bay geometry, and the same BMS communication line. One pack covers the full series because Icom standardised the BP-265 footprint across this transceiver family.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through transmit-cycle loads on an IC-F3001 dock. The BMS held stable across repeated PTT bursts without overcurrent trip, and the charger dock advanced to green within the normal charge window.
  • First insertion on the IC-F3001 dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Icom dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

IC-F3001 charger dock fault LED after BP-265 swap

A new BP-265 ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, or roughly 7.4V total. Some Icom dock firmware interprets this as a marginal or depleted pack and throws a fault LED instead of starting a charge cycle. The fix is to clean the gold contacts and reseat the pack. If the fault LED persists, confirm the dock supply voltage at the wall adapter — the BC-193 and BC-197 docks require a stable 12V input to accept a pack at storage voltage.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new BP-265

The IC-3101 and IC-F3001 read battery level from voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge chip. A new cell at storage voltage sits below the top threshold, so the radio displays one bar short of full — this is not a fault. Place the pack in the charger dock and run a full charge cycle to 8.4V before use. Once the dock goes green and the pack reaches full charge voltage, the radio will display the correct bar count.

Frequently Asked Questions

My IC-F3001 cuts out completely when I press PTT — is the new BP-265 tripping the BMS?

Yes, this is a transmit-current overcurrent trip. The IC-F3001 draws a sharp current spike at the moment PTT is pressed, and a new pack at storage voltage has higher internal resistance, which can push the BMS to cut the output. Charge the pack fully to 8.4V before the first transmission test. A fully charged cell drops internal resistance significantly and the BMS will handle the PTT spike without cutting out.

The radio drops to noticeably lower TX power about halfway through a shift — what's causing that?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a faulty cell. As the pack discharges into the mid-range, cell voltage under the transmit load drops below the threshold where the IC-F3001's power control circuit reduces output to protect the final stage. It is normal behaviour on this platform. To push the crossover point later into the shift, ensure the pack is fully charged to 8.4V at the start — a partial charge shortens the window before sag kicks in.

The BP-265 has been sitting unused for three months and the charger dock won't accept it now — how do I recover it?

Extended storage can pull cell voltage below the Icom dock's acceptance threshold, triggering a BMS lockout. Connect the pack to a dock with a known good 12V supply and hold it seated firmly for 60 seconds — some Icom docks need a sustained contact before the recovery charge pulse fires. If the dock still shows fault, check cell voltage at the contacts: anything above 6.0V is recoverable. Below 6.0V the BMS has entered deep-discharge lockout and the pack will need replacement.
