Fits IDP Vagueru laptops; replaces OEM part numbers DR36 and DR36S.
12V, 3800mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 45.6Wh capacity to restore full unplugged runtime on aging Vagueru units.
Connector type and orientation match original DR36 housing; locking tab engages existing battery bay slot without modification.
We bench-tested the cell under sustained CPU and display load; voltage held steady through full discharge without cliff cutoff.
After installation, run one complete discharge to hibernate-cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears inaccurate health warnings that appear after every cell swap on Vagueru firmware.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

IDP Vagueru — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (DR36)

This is a 12V, 3800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the IDP Vagueru laptop. It slots in where the original DR36 or DR36S unit has failed or degraded. Dimensions are 139.50 x 89.00 x 20.00mm, matching the original battery bay exactly.

  • DR36 and DR36S compatibility: Both OEM part numbers reference the same 12V Ni-MH cell configuration used across the Vagueru platform. The connector pinout and BMS communication protocol are identical, so either original part number is a direct electrical match for this replacement.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Vagueru platform and confirmed the BMS handshake completes without error codes. The protection circuit tripped correctly at the expected low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Ni-MH conditioning on first install: After fitting, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on the Vagueru.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after swapping the DR36

The Vagueru BIOS reads health data from EEPROM stored on the battery PCB. When a new cell goes in, that EEPROM data does not match the accumulated charge history the BIOS expects, so it flags the battery as degraded even though the cell is new. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a full uninterrupted charge forces the BIOS to rewrite its learn-cycle data against the new cell. After two to three calibration cycles, the health status normalises and the warning clears.

Vagueru shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The IC still uses data from the old, degraded cell, so it misjudges the remaining charge and the laptop hits the voltage cliff earlier than the display suggests. The fix is deliberate calibration: drain the battery fully to hibernate cutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption — repeat this two to three times. After those cycles the fuel gauge IC maps the new cell's curve correctly and shutdowns at low percentage stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Vagueru BIOS shows "0% available (plugged in, not charging)" right after I installed the new DR36 — what's wrong?

The BIOS lost its EEPROM reference data when the old cell was removed, so it cannot authenticate the new battery and stalls the charge controller. Unplug the AC adapter, hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual board power, then reconnect and boot. If the charge still does not start, enter the BIOS battery diagnostics and run the learn cycle from there — the charge controller re-initialises at that point and charging resumes normally.

Windows is showing the Vagueru battery capacity as 20Wh when the spec is 45.6Wh — is the replacement cell faulty?

The Wh figure Windows displays is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery PCB, not measured live from the cell. A new DR36 replacement carries a default or blank EEPROM value that does not yet reflect the actual 45.6Wh capacity of the new chemistry. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge cycles — the BIOS rewrites the EEPROM figure against real-world charge data and the correct Wh rating appears in Windows after those cycles complete.

The Vagueru battery charge stops at 80% and won't go higher — is this a cell fault or a BIOS limit?

On the Vagueru, a BIOS-level charge limit can engage after the system detects what it interprets as a degraded cell — it caps charging at 80% to protect what it thinks is a worn battery. The replacement cell triggers this because the BIOS health data has not yet been reset. Discharge fully to hibernate cutoff, charge uninterrupted to 100%, and repeat once more. After those calibration cycles the BIOS lifts the charge cap and the cell charges to its full 12V endpoint voltage.
