Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (DXR8RLB)

This is a 3.7V 1150mAh lithium-polymer battery for the Infant Optics DXR-8 baby monitor. It fits the camera unit on the DXR-8, DXR-8 Video Babymonitor, and DXR-8 Wireless Monitor. When the original battery degrades, the monitor loses portability — this battery restores it.

  • DXR-8 camera unit compatibility: All three DXR-8 variants use the same camera housing and connector layout. The battery slides into the same bay with the same cell dimensions (48.76 × 30.22 × 7.20mm), and the protection circuit matches the OEM BMS voltage thresholds.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the DXR-8 camera unit. The BMS engaged correctly at both low-voltage cutoff and overcharge limits — no false cutoffs or thermal events recorded.
  • Re-pairing after battery swap: Cutting power to the camera unit completely clears its active wireless link to the parent unit. After fitting this battery, hold the camera's pairing button until the parent unit detects it — this is normal behaviour, not a fault with the replacement cell.

Parent unit not connecting to the camera after battery swap

When the camera unit loses power entirely — including during a battery swap — the DXR-8's closed-network radio link drops. The parent unit keeps scanning for the last paired signal, but the camera resets its broadcast state. Hold the camera's pairing button for three seconds, then follow the on-screen pairing prompt on the parent unit. The link re-establishes within 30 seconds in most cases.

Night vision not activating after fitting a new battery

The DXR-8's IR LEDs draw a burst of current when switching to night vision mode. If the new battery is below roughly 3.5V — common straight out of packaging — the voltage sag during that current spike can trip the BMS or prevent the IR circuit from activating. Charge the battery fully to 4.2V before first use. If night vision still fails to engage after a full charge, confirm the room light sensor on the camera is not blocked.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DXR-8 parent unit is showing the camera as "out of range" right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

The DXR-8's radio transmitter is voltage-sensitive — at low charge states, the camera's signal strength drops enough that the parent unit registers it as out of range rather than as a pairing failure. Charge the new battery fully before concluding there is a range problem. Once fully charged, range typically restores to normal. If the issue persists at full charge, re-pair the units by holding the camera pairing button for three seconds.

The parent unit battery is draining completely overnight even when the monitor is working fine — is that normal?

Running the parent unit with the screen active all night is a sustained draw that will deplete the battery faster than most users expect. The DXR-8 parent unit does not apply a screen timeout by default. Go into the parent unit menu and enable the screen timeout or ECO mode — this cuts the display draw during quiet periods while keeping audio monitoring active. Battery life improves significantly once the screen is not lit continuously for eight-plus hours.

The camera unit cuts off randomly during the night even though the battery indicator looked fine — what causes that?

A battery that has experienced significant capacity fade can show a misleading charge indicator while having very little usable capacity left — the voltage holds until the cell is under load, then drops sharply. We saw this behaviour on the bench with aged cells: the indicator reads mid-charge, then the unit shuts down under IR LED draw. A new cell resolves this. After fitting the replacement, charge it fully to 4.2V before relying on it overnight.
