Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

ITT PC1600 / PC1700 / PC1800 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the ITT PC1600, PC1700, and PC1800 cordless phone handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores power to units where the original cell no longer holds a usable charge. Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly.
- PC1600, PC1700, and PC1800 compatibility: These three ITT handsets share the same 3.6V battery bay, connector orientation, and cell footprint — 42.40 × 49.90 × 14.40mm — so one cell suits all three models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the bench. The NiMH chemistry accepted charge cleanly from the base station, and the BMS held voltage steady across standby and active RF transmission loads.
- First-charge conditioning on NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells shipped in partial-charge storage state won't reach rated 1200mAh capacity until the base station completes a slow, uninterrupted first charge cycle.
Base station showing no charge or error light with a new NiMH pack
NiMH batteries lose voltage during storage and can arrive below the threshold the ITT base station expects before initiating a charge cycle. The base reads the resting voltage, and if it's too low, the charging circuit won't engage — so the handset just sits there with no charge indicator. To recover, remove the battery, let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes, then re-seat it firmly in the handset and return it to the base. If the base still won't start a charge cycle, check that the handset contacts and base cradle contacts are clean and making solid connection.
Talk time shorter than expected after fitting the replacement cell
Short talk time on the first few cycles is normal behaviour for NiMH chemistry — it takes three to five full charge and discharge cycles before the cell reaches its rated 1200mAh capacity. During those early cycles, the crystalline structure inside the cell is still conditioning, and capacity reads low. Run the handset down to the low-battery warning, then return it to the base for a full uninterrupted charge — repeat this process across five cycles. By cycle five, talk time should stabilise at the rated level; if it doesn't, check that the base station is delivering a continuous charge rather than dropping in and out.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ITT PC1600 handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix this?
When the battery is fully removed from a DECT handset, some ITT models lose their stored pairing data and need to re-register with the base. Power cycle the base station — unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds — then re-seat the handset in the cradle and follow the registration steps in your handset manual (usually holding the page/find button on the base while the handset is in the cradle). The handset should rediscover the base within 30 seconds of the base restarting.
My PC1800 is draining completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is this the battery?
This is usually a seating issue rather than a cell fault. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the cradle, the base charging contacts don't make a solid connection, so the handset runs on battery all night instead of drawing from the base. Check that the handset sits flush with no gap at the bottom of the cradle, and that both the handset contacts and cradle pins are free of dust or corrosion. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth and re-seat the handset — the charge indicator light should appear within a few seconds of correct seating.
The range on my PC1700 dropped noticeably after I put in the new battery — what's happening?
NiMH voltage sags under RF transmit load before the cell is fully conditioned, and the PC1700's radio draws a short burst of higher current every time it transmits to the base. If the cell is in its first few cycles and hasn't reached full capacity yet, that transmit pulse pulls the voltage down enough to reduce the effective range. Run five full charge-discharge cycles to condition the cell — range should return to normal once the cell stabilises at its rated 1200mAh. If range is still short after five cycles, confirm the battery contacts in the handset are clean and making full contact with the cell terminals.
