Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Samsung CLA985 / CLT985 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH 1200mAh Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Samsung cordless phone handsets including the CLA985, CLT980, CLT982E, and CLT985. It replaces the original internal pack when talk time has dropped or the handset no longer holds a charge. Dimensions are 42.40 × 49.90 × 14.40mm — measure your existing pack before ordering if you are unsure.
- CLA985 / CLT980 / CLT982E / CLT985 compatibility: These handsets share the same battery bay dimensions and 3.6V charging circuit. The base station delivers charge via the same contact rail across the series, so one battery format covers all listed models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a cordless phone bench rig. The NiMH cells accepted charge correctly from the base station contact rail, and BMS behaviour remained stable across multiple cycles with no unexpected cutoffs.
- First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need that slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping it means the first several cycles will deliver noticeably less talk time than the battery is actually capable of.
Base station showing a charging error or refusing to charge a new NiMH pack
Samsung cordless bases use a voltage-sensing handshake to confirm a battery is present and within an acceptable range before starting the charge cycle. A new NiMH pack sitting in a warehouse can self-discharge to a point where the base registers the voltage as too low and flags a fault rather than charging. This is not a base station fault or a defective battery. Place the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed — most bases will begin trickle charging once the pack voltage climbs above approximately 3.0V, after which normal charging resumes automatically.
Range drops noticeably once the battery is below half charge
DECT handsets draw a short burst of higher current each time the RF transmitter fires during a call. When a NiMH pack's state of charge drops, its internal resistance rises and voltage sags under that transmit load. The handset's RF output tracks available voltage, so lower voltage means reduced transmit power and a shorter effective range. If range is dropping mid-call, return the handset to the base for a full charge cycle — after 3 to 5 full conditioning cycles, the pack reaches rated capacity and voltage sag under RF load reduces significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Samsung CLT985 handset shows full bars after charging but talk time is still much shorter than it was with the old battery — is the new pack faulty?
It is not faulty. NiMH cells in cordless phones require 3 to 5 full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — 1200mAh in this case. The cells ship partially discharged from storage and the first few cycles will under-deliver. Run the handset until it drops out, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat. By cycle 5, talk time should reflect the rated capacity.
The handset lost its pairing with the base station after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?
Removing the battery on a DECT handset cuts all power, and some Samsung models drop their base registration when that happens. Re-pairing is straightforward: press and hold the FIND or PAGE button on the base station until it enters pairing mode, then go into the handset menu and select Register or Find Base. The handset will locate the base and re-establish the link within about 60 seconds.
The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what is happening?
This points to the handset not making proper contact with the charging cradle rather than a battery fault. Check that the handset is fully seated — a slight tilt or debris on the base contacts can leave the charging circuit open while standby draw slowly pulls the pack flat. Clean both the handset and base contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the handset firmly, and confirm the charge indicator light activates. If the light comes on and the pack still drains overnight, check the base is connected to mains power and not running on a loose adapter.
