Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JBL Flip Essential 2 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ICA085NA)
This is a 3.7V, 3350mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the JBL Flip Essential 2 Bluetooth speaker (JBLFLIPES2). It replaces the original ICA085NA cell when the speaker stops holding a charge or shuts off unexpectedly during playback. Capacity figures are taken from product data — 12.4Wh total.
- Flip Essential 2 cell fit: The Flip Essential 2 and its JBLFLIPES2 variant share the same 71 × 20 × 20mm cell bay, 3.7V nominal rail, and BMS connector pinout. Swapping to a mismatched voltage or footprint will prevent the fuel gauge from initialising correctly.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the JBL charging circuit and confirmed the BMS handshake completes without error flags. Charge termination triggers cleanly at full capacity with no overcharge bleed.
- Fuel gauge reset after install: After fitting this battery, run the speaker down past the first low-battery warning before recharging — do not top it off immediately. Skipping this step causes the fuel gauge to misread state-of-charge from the first cycle, showing full when the cell is at roughly 70%.
Capacity fade from constant desk-top charging on the Flip Essential 2
The Flip Essential 2 sees a lot of top-off charging — plugged in at a desk, recharged after every short session before the cell drops below 50%. Li-ion cells stressed between 80–100% repeatedly lose capacity faster than cells that regularly cycle through a fuller range. Discharge the speaker to below 20% at least once a month before plugging in. This keeps the electrochemical bookkeeping accurate and slows the voltage-plateau compression that makes the fuel gauge report full charge on a degraded cell.
Audio distorting before the battery indicator reaches empty
The amplifier in the Flip Essential 2 pulls a short high-current spike at peak volume, and a worn or deeply cycled cell sags in voltage under that load before the fuel gauge triggers a low-battery warning. The result is audible clipping at mid-to-high volume while the indicator still shows charge remaining. A fresh cell at 3.7V nominal holds the rail stable under the amp spike. If distortion disappears after installing this replacement, the original cell's internal resistance had risen enough to cause voltage sag — confirm by checking that the low-battery LED now aligns with actual audio cutoff rather than appearing after distortion starts.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Flip Essential 2 won't start charging after I left it sitting for a few months — USB cable is fine, no lights at all.
A long storage period can drop the cell below the minimum voltage the USB charging circuit will accept, leaving the BMS unresponsive to a standard 5V input. The original cell likely discharged to below 2.5V during storage, which puts it outside the recovery window for the onboard charger. Replacing the battery is the practical fix at this point — the cell itself won't recover from that depth. Install the new cell and connect to a 5V USB source; the charge indicator should light within 30 seconds.
Bluetooth keeps cutting out when I push the volume past about 70% — signal is strong and it was fine on a full charge earlier.
At high volume, the amplifier and the Bluetooth radio draw current simultaneously, and a degraded cell can't maintain the voltage rail under that combined load. The radio drops its connection first because the Bluetooth chip has a tighter undervoltage threshold than the amplifier. This isn't a pairing or signal issue — it's voltage sag under peak draw. A replacement cell with intact capacity holds the rail above the radio's cutoff point even at full amplifier output.
The Flip Essential 2 says it's fully charged but audio drops out after a short listening session — battery was replaced recently.
This is fuel gauge drift, not a faulty cell. If the replacement battery was topped off immediately after install without a full discharge first, the gauge calibrated itself against an incomplete charge curve and now reports 100% at a lower actual state-of-charge. Run the speaker down past the low-battery warning in a single session, then charge uninterrupted to full. One complete cycle resets the fuel gauge reference points and the reported charge level should then match actual playback duration.
