Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JVC GR-DV70E / GR-DV2 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BN-V714)
This is a 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-ion replacement cell for JVC compact camcorders using the BN-V714 or BN-V712 battery. It fits the GR-DV70E, GR-DVJ70, GR-DV2, and GR-DV14. Same voltage, same form factor, same connector as the original.
- GR-DV series compatibility: These camcorders share a common battery bay and voltage rail across the DV70E, DVJ70, DV2, and DV14. JVC used the BN-V712 and BN-V714 interchangeably across this generation — same connector pinout, same 3.7V nominal, same BMS handshake protocol.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the GR-DV70E body and a compatible JVC charger. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags on both charge paths. Capacity measured within 4% of rated across three discharge cycles.
- First-install charge cycle: Insert this battery and charge it fully inside the camcorder body before your first shoot. Some JVC BMS firmware maps the battery-remaining indicator during that first in-body charge — skipping it can cause the gauge to read inaccurately for several cycles.
Why the GR-DV70E battery indicator drops suddenly near full charge
JVC's battery gauge on this generation maps percentage to a fixed voltage curve calibrated for the original cell's internal resistance. A new cell — even a fully charged one — has lower internal resistance than an aged OEM pack. That difference shifts the voltage readings the camera sees at each discharge stage. The indicator can jump from 80% to 20% without warning until the camera re-learns the curve over two or three full cycles. Run two complete charge-to-empty cycles in-body and the gauge stabilises.
Camcorder shows no battery or refuses to power on with new cell installed
If the GR-DV70E powers off immediately or shows a blank battery icon, the BMS has not yet authenticated the new cell. This happens most often when a replacement cell arrives slightly below the 3.7V nominal — typically around 3.2–3.3V after storage. Place the battery in the JVC charger first, let it reach a full charge, then re-insert into the camera body. That charge cycle brings the cell above the 3.5V threshold the body requires before it will boot.

Frequently Asked Questions
The battery percentage on my GR-DV70E is jumping all over the place — it showed 60% then dropped to 5% within minutes. Is the replacement cell faulty?
It is not faulty. The GR-DV70E maps its battery indicator to a voltage discharge curve built around the original cell's internal resistance. A new cell has lower resistance, so the voltage readings land at different points on that curve. Run two full charge-to-empty cycles inside the camcorder body and the gauge will track accurately. After cycle two, erratic jumps drop off significantly.
My GR-DV70E won't recognise the replacement battery — it powers on for a second then shuts off immediately.
The camera's BMS requires the cell to sit above approximately 3.5V before the body will boot. Replacement cells often ship at storage voltage — around 3.2–3.3V — which triggers the immediate cutoff. Put the battery in a JVC-compatible charger first, charge it fully, then insert it into the camera body. That single charge cycle is enough for the BMS to accept the cell and hold power normally.
I'm getting noticeably fewer shots on the replacement battery than I used to on the original — the cell seems to drain faster than it should.
Shot count on these camcorders drops when the optical image stabiliser, LCD backlight, and the DV tape mechanism run together — that combined draw is higher than spec figures based on video-only use. Cold ambient temperatures also raise the cell's internal resistance temporarily, which reduces available capacity below the 2600mAh rated figure. Check that the LCD brightness is not set to maximum and that the stabiliser is only active when needed. At room temperature with stabilisation off, capacity should align closely with the rated 9.62Wh.
