Fits Kaufel model 850.0095 emergency lighting units; replaces OEM battery part number 850.0095.
2.4V, 800mAh Ni-Cd chemistry delivers 1.92Wh to sustain emergency exit sign illumination during mains power failure.
Connector type is hard-wired solder tabs; battery seats into the fitting's cylindrical chamber with no locking mechanism.
We bench-tested the cell under sustained load on a Kaufel charge controller; BMS accepted the pack within four hours and showed stable float voltage.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the complete rated duration — this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register actual capacity before the next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kaufel 850.0095 — 2.4V Ni-Cd Replacement Battery (850.0095)

This is a 2.4V, 800mAh Ni-Cd cell for Kaufel emergency lighting units carrying part number 850.0095. It replaces the internal battery pack in emergency exit signs and backup lighting fixtures that lose charge capacity over time. Voltage and chemistry match the original specification exactly.

  • Kaufel 850.0095 fitting compatibility: These fittings run a trickle-charge circuit tuned to Ni-Cd at 2.4V. The charge controller applies a fixed float voltage — swapping to a different chemistry or voltage tier trips the charge fault logic and the unit never reaches ready state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the cell through a full charge-discharge sequence and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without a fault flag. Charge acceptance was within expected range for a fresh Ni-Cd at this capacity.
  • First-install test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This forces a load cycle that lets the charge controller register the new cell and sets the baseline before any scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A Kaufel fitting that has sat unpowered — on a shelf or during transit — stores the replacement cell at a low resting voltage. When the charge controller first sees the cell, it checks voltage against its float acceptance window. A cell sitting below roughly 2.0V can fall outside that window and trigger a continuous fault state. Leave the fitting powered for 12 to 24 hours without pressing the test button. The controller will trickle the cell up to a voltage it recognises, then switch to normal charge mode and clear the red indicator.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A fresh Ni-Cd cell does not deliver full rated capacity on its first discharge. The electrochemical structure needs at least one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach the 800mAh figure. If a compliance test runs immediately after installation, the light will dim or cut out before the required duration ends — not because the cell is faulty, but because it has not been conditioned. Charge the fitting for a full 24 hours, then run one complete manual test cycle before the next formal inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

The emergency light passed its test before I replaced the battery, but now it cuts out early — did I fit the wrong cell?

The cell is almost certainly correct. A new Ni-Cd does not deliver its full rated 800mAh on the first discharge — it needs one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach rated capacity. Charge the fitting for a full 24 hours after installation, then run a manual test by holding the test button for the full rated duration. That conditioning cycle is what the compliance test will measure against.

My fitting's LED is still red 30 minutes after I fitted the new 850.0095 cell — is the charge circuit faulty?

Most likely the cell resting voltage is too low for the controller's float acceptance window. Kaufel's charge logic checks incoming cell voltage before switching to normal charge mode — a cell stored for months can sit below 2.0V and register as a fault. Leave the fitting powered on mains for 12–24 hours without pressing the test button. The trickle circuit will bring the cell voltage up to the acceptance threshold and the indicator should switch to green once it does.

The light comes on fine during a test but visibly dims after a couple of minutes — the old battery never did that. What's happening?

This is a shallow conditioning issue, not a faulty cell. The first few discharges of a fresh Ni-Cd are shorter than rated because the electrode surfaces have not fully activated. The old battery had years of cycles behind it and delivered a flat discharge curve. Run a full manual test immediately after the 24-hour initial charge — the cell will reach a deeper discharge, and the next charge cycle will recover more capacity. After two or three full cycles the output curve will stabilise.
