Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kenwood NX-200 / NX-300 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (KNB-47L)
This is a 7.4V 2800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Kenwood NX-200, NX-300, TK-3320, and TK-5220 series two-way radios. It replaces OEM part numbers KNB-47L, KNB-48L, and KNB-50NC. The pack matches the original connector, BMS handshake protocol, and form factor for these Kenwood platforms.
- NX-200 / NX-300 / TK-3320 / TK-5220 platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V battery bay, contact rail geometry, and BMS communication protocol. One pack covers the full group — no adapter or modified contacts required.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on an NX-200 and cycled through full PTT transmit loads. The BMS held voltage through sustained RF output without triggering overcurrent cutoff, and the charger dock accepted the pack and progressed to full charge without fault.
- First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Kenwood platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the NX-200 cuts out mid-transmission on a new KNB-47L
When a PTT transmission begins, the radio draws a sharp current spike to power the RF output stage — often 2A or more for a fraction of a second. If the BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent fault, it trips and drops the circuit before the transmission completes. This is more likely on the first few cycles when cell impedance is slightly elevated from storage. Run three to five full charge and transmit cycles and the BMS recalibrates its overcurrent threshold to the actual cell behaviour. After conditioning, mid-transmission cutouts on this pack stop.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge
New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, which puts the pack near 7.4V total. The NX-200's bar indicator uses fixed voltage thresholds, so a pack at storage voltage reads as partially depleted even if the charger has just finished. Charge the pack fully, seat it in the radio, and let the radio sit powered on for two minutes before checking the indicator. After the BMS settles and the radio takes a fresh voltage reading, the bar count will reflect the actual state of charge at or above 8.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions
The NX-300 charger dock flashes a fault LED the moment I insert the new KNB-47L — it never starts charging. What's happening?
The dock fault LED usually means the charger didn't complete the BMS handshake on first contact. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat it firmly until you feel the latch click. If the LED persists, the pack may have shipped below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold — place it in a known-working radio, power the radio on for 30 seconds to draw the BMS out of sleep mode, then return it to the dock.
My TK-5220 drops to reduced transmit power about halfway through a shift, even with a freshly charged KNB-47L. Why?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output load. As the pack discharges into the mid-range, internal resistance causes a voltage dip during high-draw transmit cycles, and the radio's power management circuit steps down TX power to protect the RF stage. It is not a fault in the pack. Keep a second pack charged and rotate at the halfway point of long shifts — this is normal behaviour for any 7.4V Li-ion cell under continuous professional radio use.
The KNB-48L I replaced had been sitting unused for over a year. Now my NX-200 won't power on with the new pack at all — is it the radio or the battery?
A pack stored for an extended period can drop below the BMS recovery threshold, typically under 6.0V for a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion pack, and the BMS locks out to prevent unsafe charging. Seat the pack in a Kenwood rapid charger — not the radio — and watch for any LED response within 90 seconds. If the charger shows a trickle or recovery charge indication, leave it for a full cycle. If the dock shows no response whatsoever after 10 minutes, measure the pack voltage at the contacts — below 5.5V indicates a hard BMS lockout requiring replacement.
