Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Legrand 18 148V Series — 3.2V LiFePO4 Replacement Battery (111920)

This is a 3.2V, 600mAh lithium iron phosphate cell for Legrand emergency lighting units. It fits the 18 148V, 118 149V, 118 118V, and 118 119V fittings, among others. The OEM part numbers 111920, 30016949, and HB00118TA all cross-reference this same cell.

  • 18 148V and 118-series compatibility: These fittings share the same charge controller circuit, cell footprint (53 × 14.5 × 14.3mm), and float voltage profile. The BMS expects a LiFePO4 cell at 3.2V nominal — swapping in a different chemistry trips the fault LED.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the charge controller on a 118 149V fitting. The controller accepted the cell within minutes, moved from bulk to float charge without a fault flag, and the load test drew current cleanly through the full duration.
  • First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting the new cell. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity before any scheduled compliance test. Skipping this step can cause a false short-duration result on your next inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after fitting this cell

LiFePO4 cells lose voltage during storage. If a cell ships at 2.8V or lower, some Legrand charge controllers sit in a pre-charge hold state and keep the LED red. This is not a fault — the controller is running a low-current recovery charge before it opens the main charge path. Give the fitting 4–6 hours on mains power. Once the cell climbs above 3.0V, the controller shifts to normal charge and the LED moves to amber or green.

Emergency light dims noticeably partway through a duration test

A freshly installed cell that has not completed one full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated 600mAh on the first activation. The charge controller has not yet mapped the cell's full capacity, so it underestimates state of charge and the fitting dims under load before the test window closes. Run one complete manual test cycle — discharge to cutoff, then allow a full recharge on mains — before the fitting goes back into a compliance rotation. After that cycle, output holds steady across the duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Legrand emergency light passed installation but failed the duration test the next morning — is the new cell faulty?

Almost certainly not. A LiFePO4 cell that has not completed one full charge-discharge cycle will not deliver its rated 600mAh on the first load test. The charge controller needs one complete cycle to map the cell's capacity before it can sustain output for the full duration. Charge the fitting on mains for at least 24 hours, run a full manual test to cutoff, recharge completely, then retest.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've confirmed the new cell is seated correctly — what's causing that?

Several Legrand 118-series fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is installed. The controller detected a previous fault — typically a depleted or missing cell — and holds that state until manually reset. Hold the test button for three seconds with mains power applied; on most units this clears the latched fault and forces the controller to re-evaluate the cell. If the LED returns after reset, check that cell voltage reads above 3.0V with a multimeter before re-seating.

The replacement cell has swollen inside the fitting after about a year — what went wrong?

Swelling in a LiFePO4 cell inside an emergency light fitting almost always points to continuous trickle overcharge, not a cell defect. The charge controller in older Legrand fittings can drift out of calibration over years and push float voltage above the 3.65V ceiling the cell tolerates. Check the float voltage at the cell terminals with a multimeter — if it reads above 3.65V with mains connected, the controller circuit needs inspection or the fitting itself should be replaced before fitting another new cell.
