Fits Saft model 804284N emergency lighting unit; replaces OEM battery 804284N.
4.8V 2000mAh Ni-Cd cell delivers 9.6Wh output for full duration illumination on mains failure.
Connector orientation and physical slot match the 804284N housing without modification or adapter.
We bench-tested the cell on a 804284N charger circuit; BMS accepted float charge within two hours of first insertion.
Perform a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration — this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Saft 804284N — 4.8V Ni-Cd Replacement Battery for Emergency Lighting

This is a 4.8V 2000mAh Ni-Cd replacement cell for the Saft 804284N emergency lighting unit. It fits directly into the existing battery compartment and powers the lamp circuit during mains failure. Capacity is 2000mAh (9.6Wh) — taken from the product data, not estimated.

  • 804284N platform fit: The 804284N uses a fixed 4.8V Ni-Cd cell voltage to match the charge controller's float threshold. Swapping to a different voltage or chemistry trips the controller outside its acceptance window and prevents a full charge cycle from completing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge-discharge cycle on the bench. The BMS accepted charge without fault, held voltage under simulated load, and the charge indicator stepped from red to green within the expected window.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-Cd cell has not yet completed a full conditioning cycle, so its usable capacity at the point of test can be well below the 2000mAh rating. The charge controller tops the cell up in float mode, but float alone does not run the cell through a deep charge-discharge sequence. One manual test cycle — a full load discharge followed by a full recharge — allows the cell plates to reach rated capacity. After that cycle, the fitting should pass a standard duration test at 4.8V under load.

Charge indicator staying red after confirmed good installation

If the cell has been in storage, its resting voltage can drift below the charge controller's float acceptance threshold — typically around 4.6V for a 4.8V Ni-Cd pack. The controller reads this as a fault condition rather than a low cell and holds the fault LED on. Leave the fitting connected to mains for at least 24 hours. The trickle current will raise cell voltage back into the acceptance window, and the indicator should step to green once the controller re-polls the cell voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My emergency light passes the flick test but dims and cuts out partway through the full duration test — what's wrong?

This is a conditioning issue, not a faulty cell. A new Ni-Cd cell straight from storage hasn't been cycled, so its plates deliver less than rated capacity on the first deep discharge. Run one complete test cycle — full load discharge until the lamp cuts off, then a full 24-hour recharge on mains. The cell will reach its 2000mAh rating after that first cycle and hold the lamp at full output through the duration test.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've installed the new battery and confirmed the connections are solid — how do I clear it?

Some 804284N-compatible fittings latch a fault condition in the controller logic and don't clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. Disconnect the fitting from mains, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect. This forces the controller to re-poll cell voltage from scratch. If the LED still shows fault after reconnection, check that the cell's resting voltage is above 4.6V — a cell below that threshold will re-trigger the fault flag immediately.

The replacement battery looks swollen after only a few months in the fitting — what caused that?

Swelling in a Ni-Cd pack is a sign of overcharge damage, not a cell defect. It happens when the fitting's charge controller delivers continuous trickle current above the safe rate, which generates gas inside the sealed cell. Check whether the fitting's charge circuit is rated for a 2000mAh Ni-Cd cell — a controller calibrated for a smaller cell will run the charge current too high for this capacity. Measure charge voltage at the battery terminals; it should sit between 5.5V and 5.8V in float mode for a 4.8V Ni-Cd pack.
