This is an 11.1V, 4000mAh (44.4Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Lenovo Edge 2-1580 and Edge 2-1580 80QF laptops. It replaces OEM part numbers L14L3P21, L14M3P21, and the associated 5B10-series Lenovo SKUs. Fits the slim-profile Edge 2 15 chassis and restores full mobile operation when the original cell has degraded or failed.

  • Edge 2-1580 platform fit: The 80QF and standard Edge 2 15 variants share the same connector pinout, BMS handshake protocol, and 11.1V three-cell Li-Polymer configuration — that is why all these models use L14L3P21 or the equivalent L14M3P21 revision.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an Edge 2-1580 unit and confirmed the BMS initialised correctly, BIOS recognised the pack without an unknown-device flag, and charge termination triggered at the correct full-cell voltage without thermal events.
  • Post-install calibration step: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge until the laptop hibernates on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that typically appears after any cell swap on this platform.

The Edge 2-1580 BIOS reads learned cycle data stored in the old cell's EEPROM and compares it against the new pack during the first boot. Because the new cell has no discharge history, the firmware flags it as degraded or unknown. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the replacement cell. Running the battery learn cycle — full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then a continuous charge to 100% — rewrites that data and clears the health warning on the next restart.

When a cell ages, its voltage drops sharply under combined CPU and display load before the fuel gauge IC has reported a low state. The laptop sees a voltage cliff the OS wasn't tracking, and the system cuts power instantly to protect the board. If this happens with a new replacement cell, the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated against the new chemistry — it is still using charge curves from the old pack. Complete two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles; by the third cycle the fuel gauge re-maps to the actual cell voltage curve and the early shutdown stops.

Windows reports this battery as 44Wh but my system info shows a different Wh rating — which is correct?

The 44.4Wh figure stamped in the product data reflects the actual cell chemistry in this pack. The Wh value shown in system info is pulled from the EEPROM of whichever battery the BIOS last learned against — if that was a different-capacity OEM cell, the reported figure will be wrong until the learn cycle completes. Run one full discharge to hibernate followed by a full charge to 100%, then check system info again. After the learn cycle, the BIOS recalculates and reports 44.4Wh.
