Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lenovo K9 Note — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BL287)

This is a 3400mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Lenovo K9 Note smartphone. It runs at 3.8V nominal (12.92Wh) and carries OEM part number BL287. It replaces the original cell when capacity has dropped or the phone no longer holds charge through a normal day.

  • K9 Note cell fit: The BL287 footprint measures 80.00 × 63.20 × 4.10mm — the K9 Note chassis is sized around this exact cell. The connector and BMS handshake are matched to the phone's charge IC, so the system recognises the new cell without triggering a fault state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled BL287 cells through the K9 Note charge IC and confirmed the BMS communication line exchanges correctly with Lenovo's fuel gauge IC. Charge current ramp and cutoff voltage behaved as expected at 4.35V full charge.
  • First-cycle fuel gauge calibration: On first use after fitting, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging is introduced into an uncalibrated system.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the K9 Note after a cell swap

This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve from the old, degraded cell. When the new BL287 cell reaches a voltage point the IC incorrectly maps to 20–30%, the modem or display pulls a current spike that drops cell voltage below the BMS protection threshold instantly. The phone shuts down even though usable capacity remains. One full discharge-charge cycle — without fast charging — resets the coulomb counter and maps the new cell's voltage curve correctly.

USB fast charge not engaging on the first charge after replacement

The K9 Note's charge IC runs a handshake with the BMS on the new cell before it authorises elevated charge current. On the very first cycle, the IC defaults to standard 5V input until it confirms cell impedance is within range. This is normal behaviour — fast charging typically re-engages from the second cycle onward once the BMS has completed its initialisation sequence. If fast charging still does not engage after two full cycles, check the USB cable is rated for the phone's charging protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions

My K9 Note keeps shutting off at around 25% — did I get a faulty replacement battery?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC in the K9 Note calibrated its discharge curve to the old, worn-out cell, and the new BL287 has a different voltage-to-capacity profile. When the phone reads "25%", the modem or screen pulls a current spike that drops voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold on the uncalibrated curve. Run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% without fast charging — this resets the coulomb counter to the new cell.

The phone feels warm near the battery area during the first few charges after fitting the new cell — is that normal?

Yes, for the first two to three charge cycles. A fresh Li-Polymer cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, and the charge IC pushes current into that higher resistance, generating more heat than usual. Once the cell is cycled a couple of times, impedance drops and the warmth goes away. If the phone stays hot after the third full charge, check that nothing is restricting airflow around the back cover and that charge current is not being boosted by a third-party charger above the rated input.

After the K9 Note sat in a drawer for months with the new battery installed, it won't turn on at all — not even the charging screen.

Li-Polymer cells discharge slowly in storage, and if the BL287 dropped below roughly 2.5V, the BMS has locked out to prevent cell damage. Plug in a known-good charger and leave the phone connected for at least 20–30 minutes without pressing any buttons — the charge IC trickle-charges the cell from that low state before the BMS unlocks normal operation. Once the phone shows the charging indicator, let it reach at least 15% before attempting to power on.
