  • ThinkPad Yoga 14 and S3 Yoga compatibility: Both the Yoga 14 and S3 Yoga run the same 14.8V battery bus with identical connector pinouts and BMS handshake protocol. The same cell fits both lines without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a ThinkPad Yoga 14 and confirmed the BMS negotiated correctly at first boot. The BIOS recognised the battery and reported voltage within normal range. No charge rejection on initial cycle.

The ThinkPad BIOS stores battery health data from the previous cell in its firmware. When a new cell is installed, that old data does not auto-clear — so the BIOS flags health as poor even with a fresh battery. Run one complete discharge-to-hibernate cycle followed by a full uninterrupted charge. This forces the battery learn cycle to re-establish baseline capacity against the new cell and clears the warning on the next boot.

Laptop shutting down at 20–30% remaining after battery swap

This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell. Under full CPU and display load, the new cell's voltage drops faster than the IC expects, triggering a low-voltage shutdown before the displayed percentage reaches zero. The gauge needs two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles to re-map voltage curves against the new cell's actual capacity. After the third full cycle, the shutdown point should align with the displayed percentage accurately.

My ThinkPad Yoga 14 shows "Battery Unknown" in Windows after fitting the new cell — is the battery faulty?

The EEPROM data from the old cell is still cached in the system firmware, so Windows reports the new cell as unknown until the learn cycle runs. Discharge the laptop fully to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using it. After one complete cycle, the BIOS resets its battery record and Windows will display the correct status on the next boot.

The system info screen shows the wrong Wh rating for this battery — it lists something different from 55.5Wh.

The Wh figure shown in system info pulls from EEPROM data embedded in the battery controller, which may reflect the rated chemistry value rather than the actual cell specification. This is a firmware reporting difference, not a capacity fault — the cell still delivers its full 55.5Wh. Confirm the actual voltage at the connector reads 14.8V nominal and run one full calibration cycle; the reported value may update once the BIOS completes its learn cycle.

New battery charges but stops before reaching 100% — it caps out around 80% every time.

Lenovo ThinkPad firmware includes a BIOS-controlled charge threshold feature that limits charging to 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Open Lenovo Vantage (or ThinkPad Power Manager on older builds), navigate to Battery settings, and set the charge threshold to 100% — the battery will then charge to full on the next cycle.
