This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is a calibration mismatch. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles. The fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the actual voltage curve of the new cell, and the early shutdowns stop.

BIOS reporting new battery health as poor or unknown

When the old cell is removed, the BIOS loses the EEPROM data it used to track battery age and health history. The replacement cell arrives with a clean EEPROM, and the BIOS interprets that as a degraded or unrecognised unit. Lenovo Vantage may show a red health indicator or flag the battery as "replace soon" on the very first boot. Complete the full discharge-to-hibernate calibration cycle described above. After one complete cycle, the BIOS repopulates its battery learn data and the health warning clears.

Why does Windows show the wrong Wh rating for this battery right after I install it?

The Wh figure Windows pulls comes from the EEPROM on the new cell, which stores the rated chemistry spec rather than the value the old battery had written to the BIOS over time. The two numbers can differ by several watt-hours even when the physical capacity is correct. This is not a faulty cell — it is an EEPROM versus BIOS learned-value discrepancy. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle and recharge to 100%, and the reported figure will align with the actual 58.37Wh rating.

The fuel gauge reads wildly different percentages — jumps from 60% to 15% in minutes. What is causing this?

The fuel gauge IC on the C930 motherboard calibrates itself against the voltage discharge curve of the cell it has been tracking. A new cell has a different curve than the worn cell it replaced, so the IC's capacity model is temporarily wrong. The percentage jumps are the IC overcorrecting as it loses confidence in its own estimates. Put the laptop through two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge-to-100% cycles — the IC maps the new cell's actual curve and the gauge stabilises.

The new battery stops charging at 80% and will not go higher. Is the cell defective?

The C930 BIOS includes a charge threshold feature that caps charging at 80% when "Battery Conservation Mode" is active in Lenovo Vantage. This is a firmware-controlled limit, not a fault with the replacement cell. Open Lenovo Vantage, go to Power, select Battery Charge Threshold, and switch to "Full Charge" or disable Conservation Mode. The charge IC will then complete the full CV taper and reach 100%.
