Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lenovo Z5s / L78071 — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BL299)
This is a 3250mAh (12.51Wh) Li-Polymer cell replacing the original BL299 battery in the Lenovo Z5s (L78071). It fits the Z5s motherboard connector and BMS handshake directly. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge across a full day.
- Z5s and L78071 fitment: Both model designations share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — the L78071 is the hardware variant identifier for the same Z5s unit. One cell covers both.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Z5s platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold during deep discharge testing.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated state — skipping this step is the main cause of erratic percentage readings.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Z5s after a cell swap
The Z5s fuel gauge IC holds a discharge model calibrated to the original cell. A new cell has a different internal resistance profile, so the IC misjudges the remaining capacity. Under modem or screen load, the cell voltage drops faster than the IC predicts, and the phone cuts out before the percentage reaches zero. One full discharge-charge cycle without fast charging resets the coulomb counter and realigns the model to the new cell. After that cycle, the shutdown threshold should stabilise above 5%.
USB-PD fast charge not accepted on the first cycle after replacement
Some Z5s units will not negotiate fast charge on the first full cycle with a new BL299 cell. The charge IC applies a trickle or standard rate until it reads a stable voltage signature from the new cell — this is normal BMS behaviour on a fresh cell. Charge once to 100% at standard rate, let it drain to around 10%, then charge again. Fast charge protocol typically re-engages on the second cycle once the IC has a confirmed voltage baseline above 3.6V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Lenovo Z5s shuts off at around 25% after fitting the new BL299 — is the cell faulty?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The Z5s fuel gauge IC is still running a discharge model calibrated to your old, degraded cell, so it misreads the voltage cliff on the new one and cuts power early. Run one full discharge down to the automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with fast charging turned off. That single cycle resets the coulomb counter and the shutdowns stop.
The battery percentage on my Z5s is jumping around erratically after the swap — it went from 60% to 40% in two minutes without heavy use.
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against an unfamiliar cell curve. It has no stored data for the new BL299's impedance profile, so percentage readings are unreliable until the IC collects at least one full cycle of data. Disable fast charging in settings, drain the phone to auto-shutdown, then charge straight to 100% without interruption. After that cycle the readings stabilise — if they do not, check that the connector is fully seated, as a loose pin causes intermittent voltage readings.
My Z5s won't turn on at all after the new battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it — is it dead?
Li-Polymer cells self-discharge in storage, and if the BL299 dropped below roughly 2.5V the BMS will have locked the cell out to prevent damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC applies a low-current pre-charge trickle to recover cells in lockout. Once the voltage climbs back above 3.0V the BMS releases, the phone responds to the power button, and normal charging resumes.
