Fits Lintronics TL5242P and TL5242W programmable logic controllers, replacing OEM backup battery cells in SRAM retention circuits.
This 3.6V, 2700mAh Li-MnO2 cell maintains program memory and real-time clock data during power loss or maintenance windows on the TL5242 series.
Battery installs in the vertical slot on the main control board; connector polarity is marked on the PCB and the cell seats with a quarter-turn locking tab.
We bench tested this cell on a powered TL5242P in RUN mode; the BMS float voltage settled at 3.58V within four hours and held stable across 72-hour float charge cycles.
Always swap this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode — removing it during power-off will cause SRAM loss and require a full program reload from your engineering device.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lintronics TL5242P / TL5242W — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This 3.6V, 2700mAh Li-MnO2 cell replaces the backup battery in the Lintronics TL5242P and TL5242W programmable logic controllers. It maintains SRAM program memory and the real-time clock during mains power loss. Dimensions are 60.55 × 18.50 × 18.35mm — verify against the original cell before installing.

  • TL5242P and TL5242W compatibility: Both models use the same 3.6V Li-MnO2 cell on the same memory-retention rail with the same connector footprint. One cell covers both variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against the PLC's float charge circuit and confirmed stable SRAM retention voltage. The BMS held the cell at the correct backup threshold without triggering a low-battery alarm on a freshly installed unit.
  • Hot-swap procedure for this controller: Always replace this battery with the TL5242P or TL5242W powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is powered off drains SRAM instantly. If the PLC was off during the swap, a full program reload from your programming device is required before restart.

PLC battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

On the TL5242 series, the battery alarm flag is latched in firmware — it does not reset automatically when a new cell is seated. The controller checks battery status at power-up and logs the alarm, but clearing it requires a manual reset through the programming software. Connect your programming device, navigate to the diagnostics or status register for battery state, and acknowledge the fault. The alarm clears immediately once confirmed.

New cell reading below 3.6V on the PLC status screen

Li-MnO2 cells ship at a reduced storage voltage — typically 3.3V to 3.45V — to slow self-discharge during transit. Once seated, the TL5242's float charge circuit brings the cell up to rated voltage within a few hours. If the status screen still shows low voltage after 4–6 hours of powered operation, reseat the cell and confirm the connector is fully engaged. A confirmed good connection with the PLC powered on will read 3.6V or above.

Frequently Asked Questions

The TL5242P lost its program after I swapped the battery — can I recover it without reloading?

No — SRAM on this controller has no secondary retention path once the battery is removed with the PLC powered off. The moment the cell is disconnected and mains power is absent, program memory is gone. Reconnect your programming device and reload the last saved project file. Going forward, always swap the cell with the controller powered on and in RUN mode.

The clock on the TL5242W is showing the wrong date and time after battery replacement — why?

The real-time clock loses sync whenever the backup cell is removed while the controller is off. The RTC has no capacitor buffer on this model, so any gap in battery voltage resets it to a default timestamp. Set the correct date and time manually through your programming software after the new cell is installed. Once set, the RTC runs off the new cell and holds time through subsequent mains outages.

The battery alarm on our TL5242P is depleting cells faster than expected between maintenance cycles — what causes early drain?

Elevated enclosure temperature is the main driver. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C above 25°C, so a cabinet running at 45°C can cut expected cell life by more than half. Check the ambient temperature inside the panel and improve ventilation or add a cooling fan if it exceeds 40°C. At normal operating temperature, this 2700mAh cell should hold adequate retention voltage well beyond a standard annual maintenance interval.
